Hey! I'm sorry there hasn't been new updates, things tend to slow down during this time of the year. But the games is still under development! We hope to reach Beta soon.

Thank a LOT for the thorough review, I'm really happy you enjoyed it enough to care to write all that. Let me try to adress those.
- Yeah the music is not looping, because I thought people would get tired of it and it would be nice to hear the SFX in silence for a while. Maybe I was wrong.
- I'm also happy with the art! It's not ideal, we will need to put more work into that, but it's acceptable for now.
- Yeah I was really concerned with the starting story, I've made that whole intro in one morning. I would like to have more scenes with the characters and deliver the text piecemeal, but there wasn't time. And the font is not what I hoped for. I need to find a free pixelated font that looks a bit better.
- I've wrote that info in such a hurry, unfortunately I had to deliver it as it is.
- I'm happy with how that screen shake turned out!
- Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to change that font in time
- It does look messy. I was thinking about presenting those texts one by one and you press to see the next. What do you think?
- You heal youself every time you turn your foes undead with you Ritual. Each one gives you a bit of health, with diminishing returns are the number grows higher. If you go into Frenzy, all you need to do is have some health before the Frenzy ends and you will revive.
- Yeah, it's swarmy because we wanted to go way overboard with number to see where it would break. In future versions the numbers will scale less, but the enemy power will scale.
- I'll look into that direction thing, but I think it has been corrected on recent updates.
- The Ritual doesn't make you face the player, that's the Frenzy and it's intentional. It's easier to differentiate if you download it to play instead of playing the web version, because there's a flame effect that's not present in the web version.
- I love that game over screen haha but I need to figure out a better way to present the score, because there will be a High Score board. Props to my buddy with the soundtrack too, this was 100% him.
- It's awfully unbalanced, and probably will be until we release the Beta and focus on balancing each arena.
- It breaks? I've never seen it, can you send me a video? In the latest gameplay I go almost to 1 million points and that never happened
- Which cross? Maybe you're playing the newest version (1.2.0) instead of the jam version (1.1.0)? Anyway, for now the dropped items (cross and bible) increase you score and give you a short speed boost. But there will be buffs and collectibles in the future.
- There won't be a level progression on the same run, each run is a fight to the death. But there will be more arenas, and you unlock new arenas by achieving a higher score.
We were awfully aware of all those limitations when we released this version. There's definitely lots of things we still need to finish before the game reaches Beta. We've released further updates but, unfortunately, I can't upload it here yet because the game is being rated on jams, so I've made a second page for that. Check it out!
I've released an update that enables you to shoot while you move and adds new controls. Now you can also shoot with your mouse or your gamepad's right stick, which makes it so much nicer.
Thank you so much for taking interest in our work, we hope to reach Beta before the year is over. So stick around, I hope you'll like it!

I've released a new version where the controls have been greatly improved, but unfortunately I can't upload it here as to not interfere with the jams. So I've uploaded it on a separate page, check it out! :)
Thank you, it means a lot!! I also have a great time with that mechanic haha I'm still trying to get over 1 million score.

Those enemies are coming, and the upgrades are the sort of thing you can unlock by achieving higher scores!
Hey! Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it.
This is not a game you win, it's a fight to the death. In future updates, you will be able to unlock new arenas and content as you get higher scores. Story-wise, the Countess is innocent and comes back as a vengeful spirit and inflicts on her accusers everything they accused her of.

Hey! Thanks a lot, good luck with your future games, I will be following you! By the way, do you plan to develop Back to the Bone any further?
I've released a new version where the controls have been greatly improved (including that mouse aim you told me), but unfortunately I can't upload it here as to not interfere with the jams. So I've uploaded it on a separate page, check it out! :)

If you take a look at the latest gameplay we've released you can see that it's easier if you rely heavily on your minions, so you need to keep raising them.
But there are two main problems with this version that makes it difficult:
- The enemy scaling is still not balanced (we haven't release the update for that yet, it's coming along with the new arenas)
- The controls are still lacking, but this was fixed on Alpha v.1.2.0

Hey, I've added the new controls but I can't upload them here as to not interfere with the jam. But I've made a second page for that, so here you go!

If you wanna check it out, I've made a second page for that.
Yeah, I totally get what you're saying. That's one of the things we're releasing soon, the enemy scaling instead of just adding more enemies.
We still have to build a smoother learning curve, but yeah this game is supposed to get stressful and overwhelming at some point, because each run goes on indefinitely and it just gets harder. It's a fight to the death. Story-wise, the Countess was innocent and came back as a vengeful spirit to inflict on her executers everything she was accused of.
I've used a lot of stuff in the past, but I was working with Unity. I had already tested Godot 3 and thought it was pretty decent, Godot 4 was a huge leap and they got so much support and funds this year, then whe whole Unity fiasco happened...so I decided to move on for good.
I'm really enjoying working with Godot and, although moving to another technology is never easy, it was a good transition as far as such transitions go. Their docs are good for the most part, the community is active and supportive, and the tutorials are growing exponentially. They got even more attention and funds after the scandal, they userbase exploded, their roadmap is looking good and their release cycle is tight...so it's looking like they're well on their way to become an industry standard, just like Blender (which is also FOSS) did.
I'm happy about it, because working with a FOSS engine means that you own 100% of your game, no strings attached, which was something that I always wanted but didn't seem possible a few years ago.
I hope your transitions goes smoothly, I wish you success and be sure to follow Blood Countess, more updates are coming really fast!
Hey there! Thank you so much for the feedback, it means a lot.
It's a work in progress, we still need to balance many things out, so any feedback is welcome. When you say slower, what do you mean? The movement? The cooldowns? The progression? The play time?
We'll release new arenas, with the goal of having an easier arena at the start, then you can unlock harder arenas by achieving a certain high score. I hope that will help with the learning curve, but you can also check out this update's gameplay so you can get a feeling for it!
Hey! Thank you for playing and for your feedback. It's really important because we are working on updates and improvements!
Even if your minions are able to defeat the enemies, they live for a limited time! So you have to keep reviving you fallen enemies all the time.
One of our goals for future updates is to release multiple arenas, so the first arena is gonna be a bit easier. Then, as you achieve higher scores, you unlock new, harder arenas, so there's gonna be a better learning curve than we have today.
But anyway, it's an arcade game, so you go in there and fight endlessly for as long as you manage, and then you die and get your score. So while we will keep rebalancing things in the future, it's still normal to feel overwhelmed at some point! But when we release new unlockable arenas, the score board, trophies and unlockables, it's gonna feel more rewarding.
Take a look at the new gameplay video for this week's update, so you can get a feel for how you can keep your minions going:
Hey! Thanks you, it means a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
It's an arcade game where you fight to the death, so it gets harder infefinitely. The goal is to survive for as long as you manage and get your score!
There are new updates every week, and soon we're gonna have a few things you can do with your score:
- Unlock new arenas with different challenges
- Post it on the Global High Score Board and compete for trophies and exclusive unlockables
- Beat your own Local High Score Board and unlock stuff
For the Global High Score Board, we're gonna have a live on Twitch where we feature the top scores and award them stuff!
Hey there! Thank you so much for being here, and thank you for your feedback.
A little tip: this game is all about your minions. Rely on them way more than shooting and you're gonna have an easier time.
But, you'll be happy to know that I've already addressed that and it's coming in the next version! It was something that many requested on the feedback I've received.
It was our original intention to keep it that way so you needed to actually face your enemies, stop and cast, but we're willing to give your suggestions a try!
The next version, which is mostly done and will be out soon, includes among other things:
- The possibility to shoot and walk
- Shooting with your mouse
- Shooting with the second joystick on your gamepad
- Shooting with a second joystick on your phone screen
