Played it with 2 friends, had a blast, got to the 1024 ducklings ! The ducks IA was really good, we were thinking we were playing with other players up til' the end ! Such a good game and concept !

Really by far my favorite. I just love everything about it and that it can be used for gameboy. You really did a great job with this asset pack, very very well done ! Only thing I could only ask more about this pack is one day to see it used in a gameboy game. Because it really is very feel-good to look at.

Really cool, the idea works well and the sprites are really well-made. Only critics would be : a bit more contrast would be welcome, as we struggled a bit with the shades on the wood. Apart from that, this is a really enjoyable pack and a story already appears from the sprites alone, well done !

(1 edit)

Pretty fun, played it two times for now, couldn't stop at just one ! Might play it again too. The concept is cool, tetris with platformer is really cool and playing a cute cat is always a very good idea.

I do think though that although 9 lives makes sense with a cat, it did feel weird to see the score decrease to a seemingly random value (I guess it's close to 10% ?) with every life. I do like just starting a game and restarting it when I lose. Especially since the game is pretty slow, and playing it 9 times in a row to get the best score (which could suddently get lower if unlucky on the last life played, for instance) isn't as engaging as just doing a quick game here and there and trying to aim for the best in one run.

Lost at close to 2 minutes with a 10 000 score, got a bit unlucky on how blocks fell, I might have played better but because they fall faster, it's way harder with the slow cat to use ones still in the air to keep ascending. And if you're unlucky with the only platformer you get and have a large one falling over a I block, it does feel pretty hopeless.

But also, it seemed ok and still fun to play !

Congratulations for finishing this game !

[Edit] I keep playing it, got a better run with 15000 at 2:02, I do feel like it was a bit luckier and lost on a mistake. It's a really, really cool concept, very very fun to play ! :3

I'm not exactly sure to understand.

We didn't submit anything else than what is here.
We worked on it during the jam but the quality of the work and ideas that inspired it varied with every day, which is why it may be inconsistent. I'm not sure how much I will update this project in the future, because for now I still have a lot of work on my game and not much time available in my days to work on it. Maybe if I end up doing more work on this spritesheet I will update the project page with an updated version when I'm done working on it.

When it comes to the water, the lighter tiles at the top represent ice (with light reflection on them) and under is clear water where the sun shines more easily and the cold affects it more. The darker tiles represent deeper water where light doesn't goes through well and that is less affected by surface cold, yes.

It's really smooth and clean and I like the idea of going with UI design, a lot. It's very well polished and I though it would be a bit dark because the preview on dark blue background seemed so, but the files are really bright just as on the project page. I really love that you went with Ui, a lot, and it's the second time I say it in 3 lines but yeah, super cool idea.

It's gorgeous, I looked at it earlier in the jam and it's stunning. The one thing that is more of a personal preference is that I love bright tilesets and this one felt really dark. It's not a bad thing and I could see this used in a lot of games with a darker / slower / more melancholic atmosphere, those with a stories unfolding and it already evokes images of cold nights and such. I do however love the trees and bush colors, it's wonderful and it makes me smile and I would smile every time seeing them in a game. The waters are really dark but it's fitting with the theme, so yeah, i'm impressed.

The arts are all scaled to 1280x1280 though, so they would have to be scaled down and I think it would be easier to have to scale them up instead if they were 128x128 in the files ?

It made me smile and reminded me of some old games I saw when I was a child. The snowman is a bit green and that makes it lovely, i just want to see one like that at every halloween though because the green / orange / black color palette of it makes me think of halloween (which i love). But yeah, really really cool and lots of memories, thanks ! :3

This pixelart pack is the first one I saw for the jam and inspired me a lot, even though i didn't have time, I didn't even think of christmas while thinking of winter and now I want to do so many christmas related things ! Really cool tileset ! I did have a bit of trouble distinguishing some of the sprites like the sled and fireplace on the spritesheet because they do no contrast a lot with the background, but individual sprites do clear all of that. I like the colors you used, really warm, it's super cool !

They did most of the food, the house, bush and trees, and I did the tileset, yes !
We had so much more planned but are really happy to have been able to do that already.
I plan to add even more and rework everything as time goes, especially since I have time and work before getting to the snow levels, so I'll work on shadows and tinker with everything. Sharing it and reading your comments help me a lot in that it makes me look at it again from another perspective and I see more things I could do in the future, thanks a lot.

I have been working on other tilesets at the same time, and game code, and also other things. So adding health as a factor, I sometimes worked by packs of hours and then not doing any for a day at least, or doing unrelated things. Which means my ideas were really chaotic and for instance, two of the tiles at the bottom were created with the idea of doing underground rivers later, but I changed my mind and they don't fit with much else anymore. Same for the snow, I started while being exhausted and did a big amount of snowy tiles only to realize later it didn't have the flexibility I needed, so I had to add other smaller tiles if I wanted to make only small packs of snow. And then reworking everything so it doesn't feel weird when put side to side. I'm really chaotic these past weeks so it's hard to do consistent things.

Was thinking of doing 1-bit pixel art and was wondering about how winter would fit it, during the past days. Your pack is a perfect answer, I really love it and the fire animation is incredible.

It looks so smooth, and that snowman has a wonderfully mischevious smile.

Also, good luck for the "sleeping at night" thing, that's definitely one of the hardest challenge.

Here are some of the examples.

After checking, the non-winter originals with a red dot have been drawn the 13th (this month) and their counterpart have a red dot but were started after the jam, and those with a green dot were drawn the 19th for the originals. I removed some of the ones I think were lower effort. There are transparent pixels in the middle of the snow, that'll be fixed (it's planned, just didn't take the time yet, i'll check everything at once tomorrow).

I guess the flowers and shrooms are the lowest efforts among them all, even though I had to redraw more than what may appear at first glance because I didn't like a simple recolor result (can be seen here and there).

I'll gladly remove those with the red dot if asked, no problem with that, and I'm already happy my little sign can enter because started a few days after the jam for the original (and even after for the one in the snow). I don't know if I'll include the original though, it could be useful to have with its counterpart but I didn't do the first one with winter in mind.

Gonna provide examples this evening. But first of all :

It's because i'm french.
In france we don't put space before "," and "." but we do before "?" and "!".

But I do think in english, although we don't put one before "?" and "!", we don't either before "," and "." ?
And as I tend to speak french and english everyday I tend to mix both.
Also I do feel weird when I don't put one before "?" and "!" so even if I know I should I sometimes consciously don't :p

Hi !

I'm currently making my first ever game since the beginning of the year, and I saw the Jam a week ago. Because I intended to do winter levels, I thought this jam was a perfect way for me to motivate myself doing pixel art on this theme, so before anything else, thanks a lot !

However, I have two questions.

The first one being : I may have started non-winter art slightly before the Jam start, and although I don't intend at all to submit it, I used some of the sprites as a basis for a few of my winter-themed sprites. It's not "just" recolors, it all asked for more work in that I had to add snow, change color palettes, redo many details and such, overall shapes, etc.

It's only a part of the pixel art I'm doing, and I intend to follow the rules (it's my first ever jam too so it's really important for me as a very beginner dev' and artist), so I wanted to ask : Should I include or exclude these assets from the pack I plan to submit ? To be clear, they are my creation, all during the time frame of the jam, but some used sprites that may have been drawn slightly earlier (maybe, i'll have to check if needed) as a basis.

Also, second question, we are two people working on this small game and we're doing a few pixel art each and : is it ok to submit our work together, since they are meant to be for the same pack and would feel weird if in two separates submission ?

Thanks a lot for the attention, and I hope I'll be able to complete a good part of what's missing tomorrow and also add even more (it's really motivating, this jam existing is why I now have an almost functional beginning of a winter tileset). Thanks for the jam, too !

Super fun game, spikes are buggy (chicken kinda immune to it in the last level if gets on platform and falls on them by sliding it seems), but really great design. Really cute, I loved it !

Adorable, and thank you a lot for the ending, I needed something like that this evening. The double jump animation is perfect, too, it's one of the most adorable thing ever. My only critics would be, as someone who read fast, the inability to make text appear all at once or go to the next text bubble made be really lose focus after a few minutes.

Thanks again though, I had a great time playing this game !
