Fair enough! I figured there was a reason, but I ended up accidentally equipping an 'earlier' weapon late on because I went back through an earlier room, and that set me up for some difficulty. But that was on me for not wanting to just restart hehe. And maybe I'd have been wrong to do so anyway, if the 'earlier' weapons I wanted to keep would have been underpowered.

This was really tough but I managed to finish it and had a good time! The look was perfect, the choice of soundtrack was excellent, and I really liked the aim->dodge/action mechanic. It would be cool if you could drop your previous weapon when you pick one up, so that you could swap back if you don't like the new one. I definitely had a hard time with a couple of the weapons (though I'm not totally sure how different they are).
Hey, I'm trying to load my own samples in the tune screen but the tutorial video is out of date on this. It says Select + pad button (which changes play direction) or shift + click on pad (which does the same as click, adding/changing choke groups). I definitely have the full version since I can save new patches, and edit the background colour etc. but loading samples just isn't something I can find. Can you help? Thanks!
Hey, glad you enjoyed! In the description I was talking about this, I'm not sure there is a full export to HTML5 in Voxatron. What I've done here is grabbed the embed code from the Lexaloffle BBS, where you can upload your cart PNG and use their player. If you post a PNG cart there you can probably do the same.
Thanks for playing! I love this look too, I've made a lot of games based on it over the years. Yes they are just polygons (represented by lists of vertices) in game engine terms, everything that moves is drawn in real time every tick. Even the letters are polygons! 😌 I used the luxe Shape modifier to manage the drawing etc., although I started out with something that was a little bit more reinventing the wheel! 🤣 It gave a similar effect, but was much more complex codewise than using luxe's own modifiers.
The classic thing with these avoiding games is trying not to add mechanics that encourage staying in one place, but I really wanted the petals to spin and have a purpose in so doing. Sadly I didn't have time to add something else to continue encouraging movement as well.
What a kind comment! Thank you! It always means a lot when anybody plays my games, so thank you for playing more than one and taking the time to comment! I do my best to keep it reasonably original, even if otherwise it's pretty shallow most of the time.
I think actually I've been doing it slightly longer than five years - the very oldest games are not on itch.io. But even if it's less than five I do still plan to stop in early 2020, I just haven't decided yet which month will be the last!
Edit: no, it's just a bit over five years consistently, though I've tried doing games before the start of the consistent one-game-a-month streak which is 5 years as of January I think.
Yes, that's true I could have done it like that, but for the bee game I wanted things to be calmer and less interactive. I still might do something more strategic like having a game where you command things to attack etc., I just haven't wanted to do aggressive games for the last while.
Thanks for the feedback!
@Stentorien Thanks for the comment! Yeah, it's not designed for the player to need to do much, just to be a chill and satisfying time. If you want to do more, try ANTS instead! https://program_ix.itch.io/ants
Thanks for the feedback! If you download the 'play again and again' ZIP you don't need to worry about the end screen's timer, but good to have some feedback on it nonetheless. I thought I made it long enough, but I was probably erring on the side of caution, trying to stay inside the rules of the DUPLICADE cabinet.
As for the start timer, I like the idea and might add that in! Thanks again, and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the game.
