Yo! How is the development of the game? I remember leaving a feedback/comment on the demo, and since its been a year, I'd thought that I would check up on things here! I hope you are also doing well!

You may want to look into Random.Range - https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Random.Range.html
An example: spawnTime = Random.Range(1, 5); (This means, a random number will be generated that will range from 1 to 5, and assign it to spawnTime variable)
I'm not sure how the code would work depending on the game you're making, but if you're planning to have different spawnTime/spawnDelay values every after instantiation of an object, you can put the code just below the Instantiate() function call.
I don't use Unity now but I remember looking and reading through these while learning:
- https://www.raywenderlich.com/gametech (This one's more like bite-sized tutorials for specific needs).
- https://www.alanzucconi.com/tutorials/ (For more advanced stuff)
- https://noobtuts.com/unity (Tutorials that are more project-based, this is my personal favorite!)
I forgot to mention, but you could also try creating a new topic under the Release Announcements or the Get Feedback page here on itch to start getting feedback on a newly-released, in development or even a finished project. Just follow the page rules before posting and you're good to go! This might also help getting the word out for your game here :)
Very relaxing and aesthetically pleasing of a game. Art is very polished, so as the overall 'vibe' of the environment.
It would be nice to have some of the game UI updated ( (one example is the text in the tutorial section of the game, it was offscreen when you play the browser version). Maybe it's more of a resolution problem. There's also the controls (though after a few minutes of gameplay, I got the hang of it), it can be quite hard to figure out at first.
But overall, a very good, short game, considering it was made in a week :) Awesome!
This was very fun to play! I can see that it's in development (it still receives updates) so I'm sure there's pretty much more to come from this game.
Would love to see some UI updates, more variety of powerups, as well as maybe a fix to the background (when you go far off, you get into the end of the image, and just walk onto a black background).
I have lots to say about the game, but I would like to try and condense my rambling into a bullet list:
- Goodness, that godly pixel art though!
- Was this inspired by 'Spirited Away'? Because that is the first thing I thought of as soon as I saw the header image.
- If I would add something into the game, maybe more variety of visitors and buildings (or interactive stalls, perhaps?)
- Also a start screen and a pause feature?
- More variety of music? Still, the current one is good.
- Loved the implementation of the day/night cycle. It felt natural.
In short, I love it! It might not be engaging, but the game sticks to its own mechanics and purpose, as it is relaxing to play :)
Hello! Now that I think about it, I might not have introduced myself here in this thread despite having an account since 2018. If I did, then let this be a re-introduction, I guess :)
Yo, I'm patch, a solo game dev and have been here for some time, however became inactive due to studies and personal responsibilities. I now come back to hopefully make games again using Godot (formerly Unity), interested in making visual novel, adventure, point-and-click and (maybe soon) fps type of games. I love telling stories and a video game just so happens to be my medium for that. I could be making a game about a man escaping a zombie-infested city or someone trying to outrun his past. I'm currently planning to make small ones here and there before working on a serious project with puzzles about ciphers :)
With that said, it's nice to see everyone here!
If possible, you could try showing it off outside of itch.io (perhaps on a Discord server, or a subreddit).
If you prefer staying at itch, what you could do is: connect with fellow users, maybe play one of their games or two, give comments, feedbacks and socialize. Not only you might find a potential player, but you would also meet new people, and learn from them. Maybe even learn more about game development in general. If you want them to play your game, maybe try avoiding sending the game link directly. Instead, tell them why they should be interested. There's this thing called 'elevator pitch' where if you could describe your game in maybe under 2 sentences, what would it be? Leave the user/player clueless, but interested.
But if it is your first game, chances are, it would be much harder to show off. There can be many reasons to that, but one I could think of is maybe you're showing off an unpolished product. Maybe there needs improvement for graphics, sounds, game cover, description, play time, mechanic or any part that makes up a 'game'.
If it doesn't work out, don't fret :) You could make another game, that is perhaps a different league from the first one you made. Make your previous game an inspiration and find ways to improve upon that.
I'm not an expert on this subject as there are many ways to promote or share your game, but I hope I helped in some way :)
DEMO REVIEW [may contain SPOILER of the demo game]
Apologies. I promised to you that I'll play the game but I kinda forgot about it since I am currently making a game too. However, I have the time now, and as promised, will leave you a feedback for it.
Before anything else: I don't usually play visual novel games (I prefer playing
stealth/adventure games) so I might not give you a quality feedback of the game as I don't play the genre of the game very often. But don't let this discourage you though. You just have to find someone who plays much novel games.
I will go straight to the things that I think needs attention. These are the things that I suggest, will need changes/fixes. I wouldn't call them 'cons' since the game's still in demo (and game demos are actually for reviewing the core game mechanics and stuff so :))
1. Change of Fonts:
Changing the fonts (the game font in general) might give off a more of the intended
'aesthetic' vibe to the game. Font Squirrel and Google Fonts are good resources to look for good fonts.
2. More Character Depth:
I find it kinda hard to explain it, but I'll do it with the one of the antagonist of the game named 'Dark' (assuming she/he is a antagonist, this is a demo after all, not the full game). With all the dialogues I've read from him during Dark's encounters with May, I didn't really find Dark intimidating. There was something missing about Dark as an antagonist (this is the part that I'll say that it may depend on personal preferences). Yes, with the art, I find Dark mysterious, but let's say I needed more 'substance'... but this might not be given to me
as of now just because the game is still in demo and there is more to discover to this
character. 3. Change of Dialogue Box: This is more of a preference, but I think it's good to change the dialogue box. If it's possible to change it per 'scene' (ex. if you're talking to some antagonist), do so :) it
might be do good (not sure if possible with Renpy. Its been so long since I've used it but I think with the updates, you can).
4. More Variety of Music
As an indie game developer, I do know it's hard to get or even make music, but it would be
nice to add more variety of background music. But the current music that is in the game is
decent, I must say ;)
Apart from all that, there are things that I find good/impressive in a way.
1. Game Art
I'm not personally good at art (not my forte), but I find your game art very good. The
characters, background colors were crisp. I like how I can distinctly tell from the
characters who's who.
2. Characters
I find the characters presented well. The people that stood out for me (so far, apart from the main character) were Noah, Dylan and Zed.
3. Story
At first, upon playing the game, I thought it would be the typical teen love story (from reading the description, but that might be part of the story I guess) but I was surprised when *spoiler* the protagonist gets kidnapped with all other people like her. It is also fast-paced, which I like. I would not criticize the story much as this is a demo :)
I wish you luck for further development of the game. It might be hard and oftentimes, you'll find yourself in the verge of giving up but remember to rest, breath and have fun!
I love the game! Somehow, I just wished that the voice overs (or the effects) were better. Not saying they're bad, just want them to be enough to make the game creepier (but I understand since this game is for the game jam, I had the same issue of implementing good sounds for my own game because of the time limit) and with the game play, I wished there was a line to know where I am pointing my gun at. But great job, really! I loved how you managed to create a game like that in a week!
