Hi, umm, I know this is about a year old now, but I think Stencyl lets you turn text into all lowercase with [TEXT].toLowerCase(). So you can take player input and transform it to lowercase, and then check against all your commands also in lowercase.

I may have new 3D backgrounds if time permits or we get a 3D modeler for our team, but I actually want to finish my concept before Halloween, so I'm prioritizing the lewd character art for now. Just wanted to check and make sure that was okay.

And you are totally speaking my language with the play-ability thing. One of the best things about lewd games for me is that feeling of helplessness when you lose control of your character and just have to watch for a bit. That only works if the controls aren't frustrating before you lose control, and, you know, it's not just a slideshow of sexy art assets. I am all about dat gameplay, and I've been working on a combat design that takes strength away from your character as you go, which makes it harder for her to resist. Should turn out fun and also sexy if I do my job properly. :P

Hi again! I'm still very excited for the jam, but I wanted to ask some questions about the rules you're using for this one. I just now realized that a lot of my information was based on the rules of other, similar lewd jams, and I wanted to make sure I didn't break any of the rules here.

1) Can we start work before the jam begins? Other lewd jams did mention that you could start on assets as soon as the page was up, but I've seen many other jams say it's general purpose tools only until the official start time.

2) Is there a theme besides lewdness that will be announced when the jam begins?

3) Can we use existing assets from OpenGameArt that are public domain or free for commercial use in our games? I'm not the best 3D modeler but I want to make a 3D game, and there are some great modular environment kits on there that I've had my eye on.

Yeah, something like that! But opt-in often reduces the number of people who do it, so maybe that should be the default when you join and there's just a separate "Join Privately" button underneath it with the current behavior. I think jams in general are about working with other people that you don't usually work with, so I would assume most people would want to be put on the list unless they specifically opted out of it.

Hi, I'm new to the community here after finding the really cool game jam section, and while a lot of it is great there are a few nit picks I have with the current system. First and foremost is the inability to PM / DM people looking for teams, which causes a lot of the community tabs to just be people looking for other team members, and then a lot of publicly shared Discord tags and emails to actually figure things out.

I think it would help communities greatly if people had a way to contact each other by visiting their profile page and sending them a direct and private message. Then team-finding threads could be more one-post-per-person where you show off your skills, and all the contact and forming messages would only be sent to the relevant people who were interested in those minutiae. This is kind of how everywhere else does it, and it feels like a major security oversight not to have this, likely brought on by the belief that developers don't necessarily want messages from players littering their notifications. But for communities where people are on equal footing, it's almost essential to have this feature, especially when you're shy like me and you prefer to only share contact information publicly when you have to.

Another thing that appears to be a major oversight is that there's no list of people that joined the jam anywhere, as far as I can tell. So I know there's 53 people that joined, but I have no idea who they are. And even if I did, there'd be no way to contact them unless they made a post somewhere or have an email or Discord listed on their profile. All very frustrating!

I haven't found anything else like your public game jam community on the internet, so I'm hoping these improvements will be considered. They would add a lot of value to my personal experience, and let me show past work and contact info on a case-by-case basis, instead of publicly.

I stumbled onto your instagram as well, and your characters and animations are super cute! Let me know if you need someone to help you get started in Ren'Py or a similar low-coding Visual Novel framework, because your artwork needs to be in games.

Hi Zirk! What kind of dev are you?

Normally I work alone, because shyness, but I'd be happy to team up in the jam with better artists than me. I'm a good coder so I'm mostly insecure on the art side of things, and if this project became a 3D dungeon crawler it would likely be Unity and need some 3D modelling that I'm REALLY insecure about. Right now I'll probably just make everything billboard sprites and use OpenGameArt for the tilesets, just to get it done fast.

Thank you for the reply! For the third example, I was thinking you would be in a 3D world and could build ladders on any tree, or dig caves anywhere, and you had to use maps and story events to find the right places to explore to progress the narrative. So maybe you're a treasure hunter on an island of thieves, and you talk to people in town to find out where they hid treasure and their maps and then use the newfound wealth to purchase a boat and leave. Based on your reply, I think this would still probably fall too much under action-adventure or 3D platformer for your tastes, so I'm going to guess it's a no here too.

As I'm more ludologist than narratologist, I think this isn't the jam for me, but best of luck to everyone else participating! I prefer making systems and puzzles in my gameplay, and the story usually ends up secondary to the moment-to-moment engagement. You definitely cleared things up for me, so I appreciate all the time you put into this thoughtful reply. I hope this jam produces a lot more great adventure games for everybody!

Hiya, I'm Shy. I know we're still a few weeks out, but I thought it might be nice to introduce ourselves and talk a bit about what we're planning to make. And inspirations, and anything else you'd like!

Lewd games can sometimes be a very lonely job, especially when you're shy like me and so you prefer working alone. I joined itch.io looking for a community of like-minded pervs after finding Lewdest Labyrinth, which was started during one of these jams and got me really inspired to make something similar. It's a fantastic game, and super cute too.

I started sketching something out yesterday for a similar dungeon crawler I'm calling Naked Hero, which will probably be what I end up working on for the jam. You fight clothes, and maybe dildos. They tie you up, and you wear them to gain their power. I know, I'm a little goofball, but the idea made me laugh so I'm doing it.


What is everybody else doing to prepare? I'm getting super hyped up on this jam, I didn't realize there were game jam communities for these lewd kinds of things. :3

Sorry, but I need a bit more information to figure out what this game jam is really about. From my understanding (and the provided wikipedia link), we're talking story-driven games with mild puzzles (point-and-click or inventory based), and slow-paced gameplay. But you also said that innovation outside of genre is encouraged, before making it clear that non-adventure games would be removed.

So which of these examples would qualify as "graphical adventure games" and avoid being removed?

1. Puzzle games like The Witness and Hunie Pop. Big visual focus, some story-based gameplay, but gameplay mostly centered around a smaller puzzle minigame. I'm proud to probably be the first person ever to use those two games as the same example. XD

2. Card games or other turn-based strategy games with a visual novel storyline. Regency Solitaire comes to mind, but I mean any game where story outcomes are dictated by playing something else well, and that thing has zero twitch gameplay and can be played at your own pace.

3. Games where you build or have other influence over the world you are walking through. The adventure genre to me always has an action-adventure exploration vibe to it, but I like it when gameplay is less static and keeps you thinking as you wander. Picture as a Minecraft world with events in certain areas, so you can build anywhere but need to find the things you are looking for.

4.  Something like The Aurora Wager where you refuel and build onto a primary transportation object that gets you to better areas. Most likely with more plot than that game, but not necessarily. Does this count as action-adventure instead of walking simulator?

5. Traditional RPGs with turn-based puzzle-like combat, but also an emphasis on branching conversations. Okay, okay, I don't expect this to be approved, but I have to know where the line is.

I really appreciate any feedback here, as it does affect whether I join or not. I'm much more of a ludologist than an narratologist, so I always like to push the boundaries when I can. :3
