Hi, dev here,

Appologies the inconvenience and the delayed response. We had a team member living and had to juggle priorities.

It looks like something specific to Quest 2 is not letting the companion app transfer the files adequately on a cable connection via adb. Issues don’t reproduce in Quest 1 and not sure what’s the difference between the two systems at the moment.

To compensate I’m happy to offer a refund. Send me the email you used to buy the app on itch.io to diego@supermedium.com and I’ll handle it.

I appologize again for all the inconvenience,

Diego.

Thanks for suggestion. There are no short therm plans for the moment to support 3rd party bluetooth controllers. We take note and we might incorporate in the future.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Can you try the following?

If the VR app does not detect the companion app, try connecting your headset to your PC while the companion app for about 10 seconds, and then open the VR app. This will do a manual discovery.

If you updated from another version and have issues, delete this folder: C:\Users<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Supermedium

I hope it works!

Sorry for the inconvenience. I cannot reproduce. I can transfer files to both Quest 1 and 2 from same computer. Have you tried transferring with the cable?

Not in the short term. We’re a small team. We’re focused on making a great experience on Windows first and then we will expand to other OSs. Happy to offer a refund if Supermedium is not useful at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problem, can you email me at kevin@supermedium.com ? I will respond will a link to download.

Hi! Yeah, we are no longer developing a WebVR browser. Firefox or Oculus browser should sufficient for you, and more maintained! If you’d like to still have it, I can email you the .EXE.

Eventually, we may reincorporate a browser and even WebVR, depending how things go, to become a space of utilities. Thanks for the interest!

I removed the beta versions and now it’s just the VR app + the desktop app (which self updates). Let us know how we can make it less confusing, because yeah, I agree it can be confusing!

Our bad, I want to make update process easier in future. At the moment, it is difficult because you have to update the companion + the VR app, and there’s a beta + demo versions. I’ll try to get the beta version into normal version, and eventually make the companion update the VR app for you.

I can’t get a customer service response from ssl.com. It is supposed to take a few business days to verify our company and then they give us the certificate. Maybe they are backlogged.

We are still waiting on our code signing certificate from ssl.com as well that Windows requires to trust our app, else antivirus and firewalls get in the way, so sometimes we need to allow an exception for Supermedium in the antivirus and firewalls.

Thanks! We can later have a setting for inverted controls. Sorry for the companion connection not working, still working on the stability.

The companion respects and depends on your folder structure such that the same folders appear in the app. The biggest hard reason for a separate application is that the Quest could not handle unzipping big files, we’d have to wait minutes and then it’d often run out of memory. The companion unzips in seconds and serves to the comic reader one image at a time so the Quest doesn’t choke.

Then we plan to support more file types like books and PDFs and images and audio.

Sorry again the companion didn’t work, I’ll work hard to make sure it’s more seamless and hopefully you can give us another look in the future.

Hi! Sorry for not seeing the reply, I just now noticed the “Subscribe to this topic” button in itch.

I believe we will add 2 pages side-by-side eventually (since we will have a settings menu). Right now, we are working on things such as wired sync/transfer of comics, better antialiasing, PDF support, MacOS support, and then settings menu for customizing (dark mode, scroll speed).

Just updating on this thread, we now that has a companion app to efficiently sync and transfer comics to the Quest (both wireless, and soon wired).

Sorry, didn’t see this thread (I didn’t know itch didn’t give notifications for new comments).

v0.17.0 has been reported by most people to be working now, including from Quester68 (thanks for confirming!).

Please let me know how that is for you.

Thanks! Yeah, we hope to reduce the shimmering with some bilinear or trilinear filtering in-GPU. We are currently trying to get that working with the Oculus OVROverlay.

Yeah, we hope to try a photo viewer, and stereoscopic images is a good idea, I’m sure there’s a lot of nice public domain ones we can showcase.

Please keep sending us ideas and feedback! I’m glad at least the base functionality works okay and there’s more room for potential.

Thanks for confirming!

Added, thank you!

Hi! Sorry if there are issues, keep letting us know whenever the companion app doesn’t work smoothly (which for some people, it hasn’t all the time).

There used to be a sync button in the companion app, but it didn’t actually do anything, it was a work-in-progress. So I removed it until I finish it. I plan to add the functionality after I resolve issues with the companion app.

To delete a comic, you can press the X button on the controller while hovering over a comic. We plan to add those instructions in the app again later. The “save” icon comes up when you open a comic in VR, which effectively downloads it.

We could try Ubooquity, but the companion app does some optimization and processing for Quest, and will later continue to support more features normal comic servers can’t for Quest (USB transfer sync, delete files from Quest from PC, import MP3, etc).

I’m pushing a new version that may fix issues with scanning now, sorry if anyone has any issues last couple days when upgrading versions.

Thanks for reporting, I’ll check out the issue removing folders. You can delete the folder in C:/Users/<username/AppData/Roaming/Supermedium

I have published a new version for people that upgraded between app versions. The app was not firing off the scanner. Another fix would have been to right-click a folder and hit “Rescan Folder”.

An unrelated problem may be discovery not working, in that case, try connecting your Quest to your PC while companion app is running, and they will try to discover with each other. Please let me know if you have more issues.

I think have identified the problem related to upgrading between versions of the companion app, and am now fixing it. Sorry for the inconveniences.

If you have any test files that do not work, you can try sending to me at kevin@supermedium.com to try to test.

I will work hard to look into these issues today and test more. Thank you for coming to us!

Thanks, I will check it out now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the question! Just add the folder that contains all of your comics and comic folders! It will include every folder inside that folder.

So if you have a folder that contains all of your comics, click “Add Directory to Scan” and just add that one folder. Let me know how it goes!

I’ve pushed beta builds of the Supermedium desktop companion app (downloadable here or at supermedium.com), and beta version of the Supermedium APK to install on Oculus Quest (downloadable here on itch.io).

If you haven’t purchased, the demo available here on itch.io or supermedium.com works with the desktop companion app (which is free to download).

Hey sorry, just saw this, I will test this in the future and fix, with the desktop app method to transfer comics.

At your request, we are finishing up a desktop companion app that can wirelessly share your entire comic library over your local network. You will just have to start the Supermedium desktop app, and then open Supermedium in the Quest, and all of your comics will be there. Let me know what you think!

Thanks! We are working on making it better, and all feedback is immensely useful and we’ll tailor it for you if you use it. You can become part of our development process! We’ll look to add dark backgrounds and ability to change and add your own audio. At the moment, I am working on the desktop syncing application you mentioned before.

I hope you consider a purchase! How do you like the reading experience? I’m looking into both Quest local storage + local media server.

Hi, thanks for the topic! We are currently developing a way to upload and read files directly from the Quest local storage using a desktop companion app. We could explore later on reading from a server installed on the computer.

Thanks for the question! It’s 1GB per individual comic. You can have as many comics as your Oculus Quest allows (the 128GB limit). We don’t store the comics on our server, just transfer it to your Quest.
