Thanks!

Thank you!

Hi Robert, I figured out what to do with the ticket, then got stuck briefly with a certain puzzle in the kitchen. It led me to believe that I had to go elsewhere, when this wasn't the case (see the transcript below). If you have the time, please add in a few more synonyms and descriptions because the puzzles were enjoyable and it would be a great intro to text adventures for beginners!

***Spoilers below***

...
You see a safe here.
> x safe
You see nothing special about the safe.
> open safe
I can't open it, it's locked!
> unlock safe
Hm, you don't seem to have the right key.
> use key in safe
I don't know the word "use".
> unlock safe with key
The safe is now unlocked.

Hi Robert, do you have a walkthrough? I got as far getting the ticket and then didn't know what to do.

I really enjoyed playing this one: The descriptions were rich and really set the scene, even taking me back to my grandmother's cottage (now bulldozed with a giant modern house sprawling  on top of half the garden) where there was a collection of knick-knacks which included a Toby jug.

For improvements, I found that the tutorial did not entirely fit my laptop screen, so I was moving between the input at the bottom and the output at the top. The maze bit also felt too complex for the game to come, but the documentation was thorough, with clear instructions and a map for players to easily get around.

All I can do is echo Grizel: The history of the eggs was a nice addition to the story as well as the puzzles, and I liked that there were multiple endings. By the way, I made sure to pet all the animals. :D

Well... that was unexpected! Thanks for a fantastic, humorous mini adventure! Perhaps there could be a few more synonyms in places: There was only one point when I got 'stuck' but I just tried some different wording and got through. I'm going to check out your Text Adventure Collector game too!

It's not, but I'm flattered that you think it could be! The Yorkshire Dales is one of the places that has a real atmosphere of history and community, and writing those family reactions at the end was fun. :)

Thanks for playing! I see what you mean about the barriers: Originally playtesters were simply told the old woman went downstairs and were left to explore the inn freely. It didn't really add to the atmosphere or feel rewarding/compelling so, among the final changes, I added the interactions at the top of the stairs. I might see if I can rebalance this after the competition, or keep it in mind for the sequel: The Haunted Hamlet.

I'm not sure about Adrift - this was made in Adventuron - but tstart and tstop will produce a downloadable text file for this engine which shows player input.

Hi Goliard, thanks for playing and for the feedback.
I know what you mean about the rage quitting: I often exhaust all the synonyms and combinations apart from the one that the game actually wants!
HELP gives a list of common commands but not all the verbs for completing the game. After voting ends, I'll look at adding a verbs list in a future update.

Hi JC Sirron, Thanks for commenting on and rating 'From Shore to Shore'! There are some great key features and story possibilities here. I wouldn't worry too much about having 'coder art', but if you're looking for inspiration and some example palettes, I recommend lospec.com. Hope this helps!

Beautiful style! If made, would this be a point-and-click adventure?

I would love to see this become a real game - and that's a great description on the game page! As intended, it really reminds me of the PS1 games from the late 90s/early 00s, but much better quality graphics!

Love the art style and great work with a limited palette!

I have so many questions (in a good way - you've got my interest)! How would you unlock speeders and gear? Would you have to plan your gear to beat a single opponent, or many in a round? Could there be synergies for bonuses and/or negative effects?

And as others have said, great art work! I'm now a follower.

I just want to say that every time I scroll through the submissions, I immediately notice your entry amongst the 200+ submitted. It's full of attitude and makes me wonder what the music and SFX would be like!

I can see the inspiration you mentioned from Wildfrost, but I can also see your passion in this to make it your own (including making all those animations to show it off!). Great work!

This has a fantastic aesthetic and I would love to see this become a real game. Your UI and info presentation looks top-notch too: Claustrophobic yet clean at the same time.

Thanks - I agree with everything you said! I haven't used MuseScore in years, so I admit to just 'mucking about' and re-familiarising myself with the software on this occasion. Hopefully I'll be back up to speed for the next OST jam!

Thank you! Glad to hear it reminded you of FFVII because that was the era I was going for.
