is there any connection to the old Adventures of Rick comic by any chance?

Just figured we'd provide some critique in case you were looking to expand the network to include more authors/creators. You can have any rules you desire, but it may limit what kind of stories or games you will see, and while that might be the goal, this is the first time we've seen a poly focused game jam, and realized that it might be cool to have more games rather than fewer. But we understand wanting very specific types of stories(that is very relatable to us and our own interest in romance).
We are also a poly person ourself, though that shouldn't have to be mentioned in order to provide some feedback or ideas. (from our own experiences, there is a lot of good and bad mixed together, and the bad experiences can be the shadow that makes the positive experiences so much more powerful. Our first experience with IRL relationships in this field was a bad one, but our second was very positive, if not for the bad experience first, the good one may not have been something we can value so highly)
Again, still happy to see a poly-focused game jam, that's really cool, though I can name a few of poly romance games (mostly on itch) we desperately need more. You should hopefully get some good, though highly specific results here, and we will look forward to playing said games when they come out.
We wish you the best of luck, and are excited to see where this jam goes in the future. XD
saw this and thought 'oh hey, we make almost exclusively poly romances' but then saw the long list of rules and decided 'we'll just keep making our own thing instead xp'
I think its admirable that your trying to bring light to the poly scene, but there's so many rules that would restrict art, writing, and creativity. Like why can't you have a story start out as a love triangle, look like its going to be normal and chose only one person but then boom, they all fall in love instead. I can name at least one trigamous pony story that did that fairly well... actually a few. (The Teacher, the Sorceress, and the Wonderbolt comes to mind) but I'm not gonna go through all the rules one by one and point out how you could still achieve your goals with x, y, or z. Just gonna say that it's way too many rules.
This isn't spooktober jam, it should be more relaxed. (but hey, I'll keep an eye out on the entries because we seriously need more poly love.)
just making fun of the absurdity here. as a creator I too struggle with the 'do we want to make a thing that surprises players' or 'do we want to avoid accidentally upsetting someone' there's no right or wrong answer. But it is all a bit silly at the end of the day.
If you can't laugh at the absurdity of life, then there's not much point to living XP
Glad you liked it even though it's not quite your thing. (that means I succeeded at something at least lol)
In truth it's not actually nfsw it's more like pg13 ( I just put the pg16 to warn folks)
if I were to say I have an audience it's people that like anime, like dragon ball with it's master roshi, Yuyu Hakusho with it's main character, or FLCL with it's everything.
If it's not something you are already into/familiar with then it probably comes off as poorly written fanfiction lol, which it pretty much is.
I like it because it is clear that this base was meant to be for multiple people stationed at it. You are alone, but you should have a team. This is a great feeling you get in the first five minutes. Additionally it gives more room to explore, and more places to decorate. I can now make a gaming room, I have not yet, but I can. Where as before I could not make dedicated rooms.
It's big, but that's intentional.
(also its giving me the idea of multiplayer being a thing, which would be epic)
I am one of the many many 'nobodies' that actually love the trash. It is super relaxing and truly makes the base feel like it's mine when I'm done. like I claimed it.
of course an option to just 'play without trash' might be cool for those who don't like cleaning as much as I do.
as for food/sleep, I really like those because it makes me feel more immersed. Like I truly earned that bite of pizza after a hard day's work. and was the best part of fallout new vegas honestly.
Granted again, options to remove that part of the gameplay for those who don't like that level of immersion is a valid button. (and I think those options already exist)
I am only commenting here because I don't want people to think that 'nobody' likes these features. There's lots of us that really enjoy them, but I concede that they are not for everyone and options to remove them for play preference is a good idea. (if it's possible that is)
(sorry you're getting harsh criticism here, you make good points, but these should be optional for play style)

Hello, we updated our profile so there's a method to contact us now.
There are stats, they're a leftover from having remade the game 3 times during the game jam, and though they don't do anything yet, they will likely be more important in a future update (There is an update game jam happening later this year that was part of the initial plan for this). As for paths, how you spend your time at night won't change the endings 'except for one ending' but rather it gives new perspective on the world and lore itself.
as for the code and dialogue, everything is archived. So there is no way to view the actual script 'thank god', it's a bloody mess full of weirdness that should never see the light of day lol.
To fully get the story you'll need to replay and go through every character's path at night, there should be four of them, David, Coco, Bunneh, and Harvest. Then also see all three endings. It is meant to be a little vague at the end, but it should make more sense as you play through the character's stories and see different perspectives.
Playing the first game in the series and reading the comic may help provide additional info but is not necessary to understand the story of this game. (at least if I did my job right lol)
Let me just start this by saying how much I appreciate the acceptance of more expressive and strange content, adult stuff included, in these game jam, it makes it very welcoming. Though I don't expect to do anything too out there for this jam, I wanted to clarify this rule.
when you say 'active war' do you mean only real wars happening in real history? As in, if I were to write a fictional story taking place during lord of the rings 'war of the one ring', that would be allowed, but if I wrote a story about a real war happening right now, that would not?
Thanks again for the awesome jams. XD
since this is the first thing that comes up in the search bar, and I had the same issue, I'll put a bit more details here on how to remove from jam without deleting your game, cus that's a mess.
click on the icon for your game jam submission and it will bring up your submission. on the left-hand side, underneath the name and the short description of your game, there is a 'edit this submission' and a 'remove this submission' button. click on remove this submission and done.
I agree, almost none of the games I see target kids even if their 'kid friendly' though I personally love the horror here. There is no shame in making low budget slasher films, and should be no shame in low budget spooky video games. There's a certain charm to them that's just entirely absent now. There are of course a ton of actually good or unique horror games too. as far as the visual novel thing, that's probably me your talking about lol.
the promotion thing is a shame really. If itch just followed the same path as other self publishing websites, or sites designed for creators then they could just have an nfsw 18+ part of the forum for adult games to be freely advertised and discussed. I feel perhaps some of the reason that there is almost no reviews, or discussions on less popular games is because it's not actively encouraged.
I agree that itch.io often unfairly targets a lot of the adult creators. There are a lot of creators that don't one hundred percent clarify what their game is and thus cause confusion but then there's other stuff that's fairly vanilla that seems to get hit by the random lottery of 'ban them, ban the non-believer' with no explanation given at all. I just discovered f95 was a pretty open place, but it's also still not the most professional, there's also just a lot of content that gets allowed on steam because they believe more in the idea of total freedom than itch, which is weird given what itch.io's mission statement is. I wish there was a bit more clarity in some ways, and just more conversations like this one.
an nfsw forum would be a great place to talk to other creators, ask for advice, and learn more about the creation process. it would have to be 18+ but if 4thewords can do it, why not itch?
ah, i just found this. This was helpful for me to see. Sadly it does ruin a lot of horror content. Doki Doki would not be allowed here, nor fnaf, Spooky's House of Jump Scares, Voices of the void, Mandela Catalogue, nana825763, David FIrth, Film Cow, adventure time, Dragon Age Blood Magic or well... pretty much any long form media I can think of. Even MLP had Trixie try to off herself on camera. It also seems to prevent the ability to tell traditional eldritch horror, or stories about recovery after a suicide attempt and learning to find purpose in life again.
for some of us, we've been there. We've been in those darkest of moments and attempted to take our own lives. Horror is a great place for us to express how we felt, to show others through art and to have them understand us a little more. It can be a real good therapeutic method for healing and bonding.
I was really hoping to hear it would be allowed again next year, but I guess from what I can tell this jam is trying to become increasingly more soft and increasingly less horror focused.
I am glad to see an explanation and can understand why one would be cautious, there are a few creators, usually edgy teens, or Visual Novels that don't know how to end a story properly that will go overboard. Those are not great. However, the way this rule works for this year's jam is way too strict and a bit silly if I'm being totally honest, a few bad apples does not spoil the bunch. However, even though I respect the decision to go more safe it does mean it will limit some of the creators that have truly personal stories to share.
I do hope that next year they lessen the rule, not saying to remove it entirely, but to make it more open for those of us that have those personal stories to share. Youtube's done enough to damage and condemn horror as a genre already, we need more freedom not less. Oh well, we'll see what happens.
Glad to see the explanation at least. I couldn't seem to find it anywhere else.
another update on this. I was watching Superman and Louis, a wholesome superhero show about superman and his family. The kid's friend had tried to kill themselves a year before the story starts, and the family is dealing with the fallout and recovery of that. Including therapy, and trying to find purpose again... I guess we can add superman to the list of 'you can't write a story like it for spooktober jam'
