Great concept! I'm impressed by the level of thought you put into this. It seems you have done your research with these birds and have experimented in other jams with what worked and what didn't. When moving forward with your game, it sounds like you'll have a strong foundation to work from.

Some points I think you may want to consider:

(Only brainstorming here, these aren't suggestions)

  •  Keep in mind the balance between realism and player enjoyment. I think you're right to move away from the plane controls as those don't seem natural, but controls that are too complex might turn away some players.
  • Instead of solely relying on a health bar indicator for how the player is doing, you could also add visual elements for this metric. Maybe something like the birds plumage becoming more vibrant in colors as they eat more insects - signifying a healthier bird. Something like that.

I'm excited to see how this turns out! It's nice to see such a unique perspective on a game concept. Good luck on the project. :)

Hi Khaprani,

Thanks for the feedback! I'm thrilled to hear you like the concept art. The feathered brush look isn't a post process, but rather it was done using stylised grass assets, and scattering them on a terrain in blender. For that concept art image, the terrain was actually taken from a previous project, and only the character was modelled during this sprint. I used the terrain as a placeholder for what things might look like, but I plan to substantially change things up there.

I do think you're right about the scope. I drafted up quite an ambitious project, and to do this all in a month will be difficult. I plan to continue development on this after the month, so hopefully by the end of the jam I at least have some sort of playable game. The geometric nature of the game will also speed up development time here as things will be easier to model.

Dropping the combat is something I really wish not to do, but I think your idea of using resonance abilities for puzzles could definitely open up new possibilities in this game. That's something i'll have to brainstorm more about.

Again, thanks so much for the feedback. I'm looking forward to the finished project and seeing what you and others create.

Thanks for the feedback Ilya, we appreciate the critique.

Good idea with the discrete controls, I do agree that there is almost no feedback when driving which is something that should be changed.

I think we just got caught up in the networking system leaving little time for actual mechanics. It's still a super buggy game, but your suggestions are a step in the right direction. Thanks. :)

Good start to a project that could be built on. I liked the mechanics of harvesting and placing blocks. The build executable was in a small windowed size, but that's just a simple fix for the final build. Nice work :)

Clever idea for the game. One of those games you can keep playing to always shoot for a new high score.
