Actually, I think I figured it out... There's more that I'm confused about, but I will get there!

This is almost definitely a dumb question, but I'm very new to rpg maker - where do the deck editor images go? I have figured out how to install the plugin, but I don't know where the images need to go in order for them to be usable. Thanks!

This is..... kinda cute and kinda sad and man I feel some of the emotions in this really hard. I really like the concept and what you're doing with it, and I look forward to playing it again when it's done!

This is really nice! The controls are tight, the music and sound effects are excellent, and you have an adorable main character and really nice mechanics.

I couldn't get past the fourth level though. The timed aspect seems a little out of place when part of the game appears to be exploration (hidden rooms) and repetition of parts until you can get past them (teleporters).

All in all, a really nice game! Great job!

I like the idea a lot, it seems pretty neat!

I am also having problems on stage three. It seems like honey blocks are not placing even though the animation to place is playing? Not sure if it's a bug or if I am messing something up.

I hope you keep working on it!

This is really cute! I like the art style and character design a lot.

Some of the mechanics feel a little weird but man, that's kinda what happens when you've got so little time. If you're gonna continue working on it, making it more clear when you or the enemy is being hit would be a nice improvement.

Great job though!! I hope you keep working on it!

Well that was a mildly distressing fun time.

Seriously though that was really fun and I want to know so much more about these characters and their lives and the worlds they live in yeLLS

what a cute game about dying over and over again

Is this a poem? A story of a person traveling between worlds, stalked by a menacing presence? Is it a dream? Can I ever really know who "I" am? Or "my" lover?

I don't know but I do know that whatever the answers, I liked it. I went through it a couple times and I'm not sure I saw everything there is to see. Great job, especially for the time you had.

This is.. .....cute and eerie and a little bit sad in a way I'm not sure how to describe. The art style is lovely for the game, the muted colors compliment the story well. Using words in the story to continue is not something I have seen before, and is interesting. Nice work!

Howdy! I wound up playing this game for my youtube channel and uploaded it here -

if you want to hear just comments that starts at about 22:35 but I did try to comment throughout the game ! I really enjoyed it and i'm lookin forward to the potential summer installment!!

I want to smooch all of these darlings ((or at least befriend them))

The merserker and catboy are my favorites they are!! So cute!!! And I want to know more about them

College classes started for me so I haven't been able to get as much done as I wanted oop

But I also room with my boyfriend and he needs to sleep way before I do, so I don't think I'll end up working too late even if I want to. Fortunately I've got most of my stuff coded so I am in okay shape to enter cRUNCH TIME MODE

Making!! Progress!!

I am back at college which means my classes are about to start (booooo) but also I can use my tablet and better computer setup (woOOOO). Not pictured here: a music loop that doesn't entirely suck because I remembered modes exist and are sometimes simpler and a lot more fun to compose with than straight up keys.

Collisions are finally working and more importantly sloPE COLLISIONS ARE WORKING. And those green platforms can be stood on without anything clipping! yay!

I've also got a background painted and a title screen, which isn't much to look at but hey at least it isn't butt ugly. And I'm pretty pleased with how the color palette I set out has been working.

And I accidentally took a two hour nap with my boyfriend so I am reADY TO GO INTO THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING

I got confused today and thought the jam ended tomorrow,,,,, But actually it's just my college classes are starting,

I've run into problems and was starting getting kinda discouraged when I was struggling with being able to walk up a slope when everyone else seemed to be so much further ahead of me.... But I was able to take some steps back and regroup and now I feel a little better again. I didn't set my goals too high (just the title screen, tutorial room, and a music loop) but just because I'm not shooting as high as some other people doesn't make me terrible. I've learned more in a week about game design, coding, and composition than I've learned in like a month and that's something to be proud of.

I am so thankful to how positive and supportive this little community has been, and I don't think I would have been able to get this far with my game if not for this jam and how uplifting everyone has been. So yeah. Thanks. <3

man I love the direction this is going!! I love the greyscale photos and both of your music pieces are beautiful. You're setting up an amazing setting and atmosphere, your visuals and sound make it really cohesive. I am eager to see more of the story!!

RPG Maker VX Ace used!

I am not sure if I am gonna put other codes here or not. I will see what I may not need.

I wound up getting the tier three stuff because man that is a lOT for very cheap.

But also that included RPG Maker VX Ace which I already have so if anybody needs that let me know how I can send a message to you and I can shoot you the steam key!

My gamedev/art sideblog, where I'm posting screenshots and assets from the game as it goes.

My main blog which is fandom shit (except for undertale i have another sideblog for that oops) and i am following e v e r y b o dy

Oh man I really like this! I'd love to see some of your character concepts, I think it'll be really cool to see how the friend summons work. This seems like a pretty big project but also a really cool one!!

Have you checked out some of the free assets listed here bc there's a few music resources which might be helpful! I'm using it to find sound effects and tilesets because those are not things I'm very good at.

Good news! Collision testing is going great!

okay aCTUAL good news is I have a player object in a room and that's further than I've ever gotten before so yeah!! small victories!!

More actual good news is I'm beginning to understand how FamiTracker works and made an experimental loop that doesn't sound 100% horrible.

Next steps: actually making collision testing work and stop floating around the screen and remember some basic rules of composition. THE NIGHT IS STILL YOUNG.

I also like the black contour a lot! It makes the sprite a lot softer looking which is nice.

Thank you that tumblr is really awesome and I really like the aesthetic of those two games!

Today I'm going to try to figure out collision physics, but I'm looking forward to figuring out how animation works in gamemaker.

Geister is shaped like a friend.

(thank youuuu!)

Oh my gosh! Your art style is so so cute and I kinda want to snuggle your cloud mage bc she looks so soft. I love the art and entry for pussy willow but I don't know how I'd feel about using cats in a spell! Still though, it adds a lot to the mood and makes me want to read more entries. I'm looking forward to seeing your updates!

Thank you!!

The work you've been doing is cool also! the art you have so far is really warm and charming and seems to fit your theme really well

Thank you!! I spent a while on his design I'm really glad to hear it looks nice ///u///

Both of those are really good aaa thank you I gotta try out the overlay thing because I really want the colours to be pretty blue/purplish overall.

Haha wow! This is exciting! Hey there I'm a huge nerd and would love to talk to you.

Geisterhaus - A puzzle platformer about a ghost with limited teleportation abilities trying to remember who they were before they died. They gotta adventure through a spoopy graveyard to get to the mausoleum in the center where (maybe) someone will be able to answer their questions.

mechanics - The puzzle platforming is based around being able to teleport around your environment. you can set a point you can teleport back to at will, but you can only have one active at a time. You can also teleport back to the beginning of the level if you get impossibly stuck. Solve puzzles by using teleportation as a shortcut, or a way out of a corner or hole you couldn't otherwise escape from, but had to go into.

ART

i won't have my tablet for at least a week lol i am making do with trackpad right now

Experiments with the color palette that i'm liking right now, but I'm still a little nervous about. Color is a major weakness of mine, but I'm hoping to work on that. Sketches of the first (tutorial) level, main character with teleport point (little blue flame), tutorial angel statue to send you on your way, and gravestone concepts for the background. Starting out with a simple, flat, pixelated style, but I'm not sure how well I'll be able to stay with it, since I don't have much pixel art experience.

MUSIC

Planning on using FamiTracker to make at least one theme for the game, at the very least a little loop.

CODING

I'm using GameMaker (free ver) for putting the game together, so far all I've got is an empty room you can move freely in, but hey, it's a start!

Feedback is greatly appreciated! I'll be updating this post as I progress, and making other posts in this thread for bigger updates.

((the name is literally just "ghost house" at this point lmao))

I love the aesthetic you've got going, I really like your forest sketch and what you've got going with the edits. (I like your sketch a lil better but that's a matter or personal taste, also I don't know how each would feel in context.)

Your caretaker design is really great! I like your sketches of it a lot because it seems definitively eerie and nonhuman, but also kinda sweet and friendly. I don't think that's the vibe you're going for pfft but I think it's really cute all the same. Kinda reminds me of Terry Pratchett's Death. The other drawing of it definitely has more of a creepy vibe.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how it develops! In the meantime, I'm listening to the album it's inspired by.

I really like your character design and I love your color choices!!

The idea of a light based mechanic is pretty cool, but I think this game is gonna be really pretty and pleasant regardless of specific mechanics. You've got a really solid mood and concept and I look forward to seeing how it goes!
