It鈥檚 a hard balance to make between explaining too much and explaining not enough. This build in particular had to set up a lot of things that won鈥檛 pay off until later, so things might make more sense in context later. I should probably also make another edit on this build and try to be more explicit in a few places. I鈥檓 sure you鈥檙e not the only person with this experience.

Thanks.

As I mentioned in the devlog, there will be a lore appendix at some point, but I think it would be better if the vn was self-contained and didn鈥檛 require outside reading.

I'm kind of the opposite with this, the fact that the story references a lot of lore without fully explaining it makes it more engaging for me, as it allows the reader to try and guess what it all means. my current theory is that each of the magic types is correlated to one of the four basic elements and their general philosophies. Grace would be water type spells, it's described to be gentle and it seems that it helps plants to grow; Fury would be fire, it seems it's an aggressive kind of magic, Gravity seems to be earth based and my understanding is that it's used for weight manipulation and plowing fields, Memory would be air based, the only hint being the mention of the elephants atuned to this magic being stargazers. Also they are all color coded, grace being blue and fury being red makes the correlation to water and fire pretty easy, gravity being yellow and memory being grey are a bit more confusing, and gravity as a word could easily correlate to air instead, but i figured the abstractness of memory would fit air much better than earth.

I do understand what you meant. I was just voicing out my own preferences on the matter. I find that characters with well stablished pasts i'm not immediately privy to are leagues more fascinating than your usual blank slate protagonist, which is generally a clutch for storytelling to excuse info dumps. This is done so many times, and those characters often turn out way too ignorant or naive, thus i revel when a narritive actually challenges my own intellect as a reader. I do think that i'm of a minority in this regard though, as i see a lot more people who dig in the self insert protag cause it helps them relate to the story. It's just that doesn't work well with me, these self inserts feel more like non-characters as they have little to no remarkable traits. At the end of the day it's all a matter of preference.

also i just felt like trying to theorize about the magic system out here, you seemed interested in the topic at the very least.

Wow, I can't believe that Thatcher and Tim's relationship could be so polarizing. After playing through the route where they have sex, I couldn't believe how brutal Thatcher was to the poor fox. I'm excited to see how these decisions play into the narrative as a whole, and also excited to learn a bit more about the magic system you're building.

I'm glad you're enjoying it so far! Yes, we're slowly starting to work on a lore section that would explain magic more in detail alongside some other in-universe things. We're still very much in the early setup of the story and got a lot more to look forward to!

Yes, Thatcher's opinion of Tim does differ on the route you choose. Without spoiling much, you can notice that Thatcher definitely has some... baggage he's dealing with that affects his choices.

I just started playing this wonderful looking VN, and I have a couple questions, first where did you learn how to write? please give me every author/book you've read that inspired it :) /hj (But for real if you could point me in the right direction that would very much be appreciated :D).  And second, could you raise the sprites a bit to about the end of their thighs? I would like to see more of the...details :^)

Edit: Consider using Campfire or World Anvil, so those who are more curious about the world and its magic can learn about it removed from the context of the story.

Edit 2: I now realize that it was only for the introductory portion that the heights of the sprites were odd, My apologies ^^'.

Glad you鈥檙e enjoying it!

I鈥檝e been writing on and off for the last fifteen-ish years: mostly fantasy genre stuff like this, but also a little sci-fi and slice of life. My furry awakening was Beastars, which is probably embarrassingly obvious from the first hour or so of Anamnesis. That got me into writing Echo fanfic, and from there other FVN-adjacent stuff (my AO3 account is whaletheboar).

The things I have in mind when I鈥檓 writing are Avatar: the Last Airbender, Sanderson鈥檚 Mistborn series, and maybe some hints here and there of older stuff like Wheel of Time and Dune. People have compared this first act to the Shire scenes in Lord of the Rings, which in retrospect, yeah.

In the FVN world I鈥檓 heavily indebted to Minotaur Hotel, Pervader, and above both of those, Shelter. Anamnesis wouldn鈥檛 exist without the way Shelter makes knots critical to the plot.

Anyway, sorry for the long answer. Thanks for reading!

I'm so glad you gave me a long answer, it's very much appreciated! Hope you will consider releasing some of the lore on the platforms I mentioned earlier, I would really love to read up on it.  I'll be following the development of this VN closely! Already got a few of my friends to read it  :3, good luck! <3
