Hi,

My name is Hala (AKA CatCaveWithin) creatore of CABOUS, my first game released in 2021.  It's on ITCH.IO, you might wanna take a look. 😊

Currently, I'm working on my second game; Nūr, which is a 2D action-adventure game that takes a place in sequence of children books.

Short Description:

"In her treatment journey from leukemia, Nūr goes on a journey in fantastical realms. Inspired by the creativity and inventiveness of children’s drawings, discover the adventures that lie within Nur’s journey."

I started more than 6 months ago and made a couple of DevLogs that were auto-archived because there haven't been any posts for a long time.  My full-time job was taking most of my energy.  Not Complaining!

However, long story short, the art style initially started like this:

Then I stopped!

A couple of months ago, I started working on my game again and changed the game art to something like this:

Still didn't like it! So, I finally decided on the following art style:

So now that I'm back, I will be updating this blog frequently until the day of release on September 1st, 2023.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Regards,

Hala

I got an advice from a redditor regarding the headband and adding movement to it.

I guess it worked!

I'm liking the results.

Haven't been working lately.  But wanted to update my post.

Working on my Idle and Jumping animations.

I forgot to mention that I changed the outer border to white instead of black.

Lovely artwork.

As the game happens on a notebook, there could be holes in the paper for jumping from a page to another, switching from 2D plane to another. Like in the comic “Le Processus” by Marc-Antoine Mathieu. With a nice transition animation of a flipping page, of course.

Thanks for the comment.

I need help in the weapon that she should be holding?!

Any ideas??

My first thought for a weapon for her would be a crayon/pencil/paintbrush maybe?   //paintbrush might be too overdone though.

Something like a slingshot would probably work too if you wanted a ranged weapon.

btw this artstyle is really cute!  I'd be interested to see the other game elements in this style.

“Crayon/pencil” was my first thought also. For drawing platforms or blocks for enemies etc.

Nur movement testing on Unity (full-controller).
