What y'all actually need?

Hi, hi!

Thing is I want to make some free assets, but I want to make things that people really need so I came here to ask what kind of free assets do y'all need. I can do from pixel art to 3D art so tell me whatever you need!

BUT this doesn't mean I'll do all of the things you put here, I'm just taking suggestions.

So, anyways, what kind of assets did you look for on itch.io for your project but couldn't find?

3D art is always the hardest to find for me (especially on itch). Things like buildings and props are usually pretty simple but characters are always tricky to find.

Characters require a lot of work, because you have to make the topology ready for rigging andmake the rig, actually, and it's pretty difficult. I understand why there's few . I'm an environment artist so I have no idea about how to do that, sadly

For me, I gave up trying to find rigged and animated 3D chars online, I grab T-pose chars, rig and animate them myself (I hate A pose, I don't have the skills to rig that properly yet).

The reason is not the scarcity, it's simply because I find it impossible for the needs of a specific game, you will always end up needing very custom and specific animations if you want to do a relatively long game. You see, sometimes I need a hit animation in a specific part of the body without having to turn the mesh into ragdoll for a simple hit (no 3D artist would predict all these needs, unless it's a dedicated assignment), sometimes I want chars with rigs in each finger, sometimes I don't (because of performance in population rendering), so that's why I found it easier to learn how to rig them myself in blender.

So finally answering your question, the most valuable resource to me are  3D collections (of anything, interestingly I can easily find 2D collections). Collections of shoes for instance, or collections of hair, or food. The reason is consistency, I can easily find those separately from multiple artists online but if there's little to no consistency among them it may make the game art look like a frankenstein, multiple different arts glued together in the same game.

Yeah, animations it's a really a drag in indie games. It's difficult, requires a lot of time and effort and each game needs different and very specific kind of animations. I think that would be a great thing to learn and enter with in the video game industry. I can't dedicate the time to learn it, tho

Can you do 2D that is not pixel art?

Any specific direction? Like setting or style?

Yeah, I'm actually better and that than pixel art but, what kind of style?

(+2)

For environment, it's very easy to get assets for Japanese-style schools, but American or British style ones are difficult to find. It would be nice to have more Western-style school, college and university assets.

Yeah, that's true, there's so many Japanese-style assets. Visual novel backgrounds, pixel art packs... It would be nice to have some European or American style schools

2d rpg style pixel art and anime and visual novel characters

Oh, which kind of pixel art? Tileset? character sprite sheets? And what kind of visual novel characters?

(1 edit)

Like the kind of 2d assets used in rpg games, like in my horror game, Dark School

And the kind of characters in anime style visual novels because I will be in need of them soon, for Dark School.

Oh, like the kind of assets used in horror rpg games?

yeah

Btw I think you might be able to help me with my art in Dark school.

If you are interested, my discord is The_Coding_Ninja#3371

I appreciate the consideration, though I need to know if that would be a collaboration or a commission. Because I do all those free assets because I want to and to practise. But If someone needs aseets with some specific characteristics then that would be a commission and that is not free. Sadly I don't do free collaborations anymore.

People can suggest me to do x kind of assets, but they will be generic if I decide to do them.

Well I don't do a job and haven't earned from my games so I will see if I can hire you or not depending on the commision you ask for so if you are interested dm me on discord so we can discuss.

Don't worry, I understand hiring artists can be expensive. These are my rates, so you can have an idea: https://eufasy.carrd.co/

If you are interested I'm over here. I have your discord noted, anyways.
