Feature request: More options for hosting videos

As a free and open source game development cult I'd really rather not use YouTube or Vimeo, and would prefer to host on LBRY/Odysee or PeerTube instead. Support for other sites - like Rumble - would also be nice to see.

I like the idea too. But I think that for suggestions it would be better to make them in ideas & feedback

Absolutely. It seems the link I followed from the Support & contact page points to the wrong number.

Do they have no embed code for the videos or are they blocked? I seen videos hosted on other platforms than yt and vim in game descriptions. I guess the developer just puts the embed code in the game description.

Something like this.

I hadn't thought of that and that's nice to know. Still I'd like the Gameplay video or trailer field on the Edit project page to accept it too, so it's neatly listed above the screenshots and in the hover pop-up of search result.

Oh. What do these require? Does the field say, you can only post links to those platforms, or is it just a field named trailer?

If I copy paste into the reply field here, the embed code automagically converts to an embedded video, so did you naively try the whole thing or if that does not work alternatively just the naked embed video link in the trailer field?  I see no technical hurdle to accept all kinds of video embed, if you would provide the embed code or link yourself.

The faq says this YouTubeVimeo, and SketchFab links are supported. But strictly, it does not say, it blocks others, just that specifically links to those platforms are supported, not that embed snipets are unsupported. It does work for posting in community... I would say, that embeds and links are not the same. But I do not know if the person writing the faq thought alike.

I tried, posting a link to a youtube video here in comment. It automagically converts to an embed. So that is very likely meant with links are supported for those video platforms. But it unfortunately does not say either way, if whole embeds are supported.

The Gameplay video or trailer field on the Edit project page is a different story.

Pity. I wonder if that is some kind of policy, as they provide the trailer in the thumbnail whithout visiting the game page. So as not to break compability or the site, by having arbitrary embeds. Or even malicious ones.

Because from a technical viewpoint, it should work out of the box, if they would accept an embed there.

I might be a minority (or of the majority, who knows), but I never ever activated any trailer in the hover pop ups. So for me there is little difference, if a trailer is in the description.
