Have you created a homebrew or tribute handheld electronic game, or played one recently you liked?
Post a link to it here for others in the community to try out.

Also, at some point I'll be adding a Homebrew section on RetroLab with some of my own fan games I've been working on, and if I enjoy yours, I might even convert it as a RetroFab simulation for inclusion in this new collection :)

Hi Mr. Itizso, These are my homebrew games, hope you like them.

My code isn't very professional, don't know if it's of any use to you, but it works, so i'm happy with it.

This is my G&W page : https://www.franckx-design.be/joeri/play_g_w.html

A huge collection from various developers, including a lot of yours.

I'm sure there are some others that you'll like too.

I'm really impressed by your work, hope you like some of mine ;)

Oh, wow. These are really cool. And you've even created the instruction guides to go with them! Thanks for sharing your work.

As soon as I have some time I'll take a stab at trying to port one of these to RetroFab :)

Glad you like them, but not all credit is mine to claim, as you can see on my G&W page and inside my code.

Only Covid 19 is fully mine. Hope you like the easter eggs too.

I've done some initial work over the weekend porting one of your games, G&W Factory, to RetroFab :) You can preview it here

I'm not sure when I'll start working on the gameplay, but you can at least see what the device, packaging and instructions will look like.  ACL is the only function that currently works on the device to turn on the sprites. And you can switch to the RetroFab (color) version of the screen artwork by pressing [TAB].  Feel free to let me know if you have any issues or suggestions.

Baffled is the expression that comes the closest to how i feel about this amazing work of yours. So far it seems perfect to me, and have no doubt most people would agree with that. Thank you.

I've implemented the gameplay for G&W Factory :)
Thank you for sharing your amazing work!

The RetroFab version is now available to playtest here
Let me know if you have any issues or find any bugs.

For the most part it should play similar to your version with the following small differences:

  • At the start of the game Mario is partially visible at the door to the building (instead of being offscreen)
  • At the start of the game pressing the LEFT button is the same as pressing the START button.
  • On game over, the crashed case or fallen Mario sprite remains onscreen.
  • Pressing the Game A, Game B, Time or ACL buttons will stop the current game.
  • Time can not be set.
  • Alarm can not be set .  Alarm button turns alarm on/off.

I've also made some minor changes to the instruction guide, mostly replacing "g&w-case" with "G&W case", and fixing a few minor typos.

Wow, great job! Thank you for this opportunity. The gameplay is a little more difficult because of a reaction delay, but once adapted, and playing a fraction ahaid, it plays very nice. Don't mind the changes you made. Found only one issue so far : @ game B Mario should be able to fall from the loading dock at the bottom, which is not possible yet. If Mario does so in my version, while holding a g&w-case, the g&w-case gets loaded on the truck as he falls. Thanks again, well done, love it.

Oh, thanks! I completely missed Mario being able to fall off the bottom-most girder.
I've updated the build with a fix :)

Looking great, gonna test some more later today, but i think you nailed it.

Thanks for the feedback! I've uploaded a new build that should improve on the consistency of the order and sequencing of the cases. I've tried something to fix the issue with the arm movement, although some of it may be down the lower precision of the interval timer when the frame rate is low. Let me know if you see any improvement for both issues.

Unfortunately, still the same issue, sorry.

Can i show it to Florent Gorges yet, or would you advise against that?

Sure, no problem. Just let him know how to turn on the sprites using ACL. And if you could ask him what MU in the model number stands for. I'm thinking maybe because it's a  "Made Up" game ;-)

He didn't explain what MU in the model number stands for, but his reply was " Wow, that’s incredible! ^^ "

New reply from Florent Gorges :

Well, MU-21 is a private joke with my wife ^^

In Japanese, MU-21 can be readed "Munii". And Munii is the favorite rabbit puppet of my wife (when she was a child)

that's all ^^

one detail, the book and illustration copyright is not Pix'n Love anymore. It's "Omake Books Publishing" 😉

Oh, that's really interesting. Thanks for letting me know. And I'll be sure to update the copyright in the next build.

Btw, look out for a new simulation coming out tomorrow on RetroFab of a super rare Nintendo game which I'm pretty sure most people have never played before!

(1 edit)

Whoaw!! Have no time for it now, but certainly gonna play it tomorrow. What a nice surprise!!

Is it ok to share it on the FB G&W groups?

Absolutely. Feel free to share it.

They're loving it on FB, can't blame them ;)

Thanks for sharing it with other G&W fans :)

This LCD version of Super Hexagon is a really cool idea. It would be neat to be able to play something similar as a RetroFab simulation.

Agree, is nice to play.

Thanks for sharing. Looks interesting!

For now you can only play it through a browser, either on PC or an Android phone, but I will eventually make it available for download once I've implemented all the core features on the RetroFab core.

Thanks for your answer. So we can only play when we are connected to the interenet ?

Yes.

Thanks a lot for your work. I wish you the best. Bye

Whoa these are rad! Love your take on Cuphead.

Thanks Vic!

Just heard about this : https://www.reddit.com/r/gameandwatch/comments/p6ufpj/oc_game_watch_pacman/

Seems nice to make, what do you think?

Great find Flyzy! I've posted on reddit asking the creator if they would be willing to help make it happen. It would be a really cool follow up to  G&W Factory. It would be even more amazing if he would be willing to design the manual as well!

Thx, i really hope so too.

I hope so too :) Thanks for letting us know about it Flyzy and thanks retrogal for reaching out to the artist!

Found a playable version, apparently from another artist (Eventlesstew)
, here :  https://www.reddit.com/r/gameandwatch/comments/120x4rx/pacman_but_its_on_the_gam...

Not quite the same though, but might be helpful for the gameplay.

Oh yeah, looks really similar. Thanks!

This one looks like fun too :

A left-right controller should be enough, i think,  and the jump button, of course.

Nice! Thanks for sharing :)

A suggestion, make the game Sonic 1 (Electronic Tiger)

Thanks for the suggestion Claudio!  It's on my list of games to add. I just need to find a scan of the instructions. See this post about it.

i'd like to ask for a personal favor, if that's ok. My friend, Adam Castellana ( LCDGamer ), invented Grandfather Mario . His birthday isn't due till may, and i'd like to surprise him with an Itizso 3D version of his game. Are you interested in giving my code your 3D jacket please? I can understand if you don't wanna do that, so no hard feelings if declined. Already thanks for considering. Kind regards, Joeri.

Sure, no problem. Should be plenty of time to get it done by May. Please remind me again in  the new year if I haven't gotten to it by then.

Thank you for doing this for me, much appreciated!

An initial build of Grandfather Mario is available to test here :) Let me know if you find any bugs or would like me to make any changes/improvements.

Wow, great job already. I think the back should be blue, the same color as the front plate, like most new wide screen versions, what do you think. I assume the alarm isn't meant to be able to be set, no problem, probably nobody ever does.  :D  The gameplay seems to be running nicely, gonna test some more next couple of days. Noticed, when the game is running and ACL is pressed, you can still move Grandpa Mario, which gives a strange effect. (see pic)

Thanks! Yeah, all machines on RetroFab just have a demo of the alarm rather  being able to set it. Also you can't set the time. Changing the back color and fixing the ACL issue should be easy. Just let me know when you've finished testing some more and I'll do another build with these and fixes for any other bugs you find :)

Haven't found any issues so far, so , very nice job, i'd say. Thank you so much for doing this, i'm sure Adam will be thrilled.

Great! I've updated the build with fixes for the two issues reported earlier.

Perfect so far.
