Any way to get a dialog when entering a room?

Hi,

I'm working on my first Bitsy game and I'm having trouble changing the avatar when moving from room to room. I would like to keep the default avatar for most rooms, but in some cases I would like to change the avatar temporarily upon entering a room.

If I change the avatar when exiting a room the avatar is reset to the avatar chosen in the settings of the destination room.

I've also tried placing an invisible item in the square where the avatar enters the room, but it seems that items are only interacted with when moving about manually. The item is picked up and the avatar changes if I step out of the square and then enter it again.

I know I could make a copy of the room with the necessary settings, but I would like to avoid this as it feels like it will get unwieldy to manage over time.

Having the option to run a dialog when entering a room seems like an useful feature and I'm a bit surprised that it is not possible. Am I missing something?

Hi Burke3gd.

Under each room there is an “avatar” tab that sets your avatar appearance in the room.

Each room can have a different sprite as standard avatar.

Hope that is what you were looking for! :)

Thank you, but my problem is I want to temporarily have a different avatar when entering the room for the first time.

For dialogues when entering a room, I use an item that activates a Dialogue > Add an exit to that dialogue, and add a dialogue after the exit. You'll have the dialogue when getting into that room :)

Thank you, this seems to be the solution I've been looking for. I'll try it out as soon as I can and report back.

This does indeed work, so thanks for all the help!

Glad to help 🫶
