HI                   game ---------> https://mayzavan.itch.io/6-indy500
long story short for most people and longer form below

I'm making a 1bit retro styled singleplayer racing game - mostly revolves about beating Your own records (and if I will ever put it on steam for sake of leaderboards (for a REALLY small price just in hope to get back some money for creating a page). I want this game to be arcade but also challenging with a lot of maps to choose from few cars and a lot of places to have Your best time or score in. I really need a feedback on controls (please note it's arcade - everything that happens with the car is designed this way - i know it doesn't work like that.... but if You just don't enjoy it then obviously let me know on how bad it is - im really open to change it).

Mostly i need feedback on tracks, cars stats and controls - thank You in advance

If You need tester for any of Your game let me know or paste the link to Your game below Your feedback and I'll be sure to give You as much feedback as I can.

LONGER FORM:
The game I create started as 20 games challenge https://20_games_challenge.gitlab.io/challenge/ 6th game (4th level), but because of my love to racing games and cars in general (I also study vehicles engineering - yes I am really aware that cars doesn't work the way they do in this game) I really got so much motivation to work on it and push it as far as I can (even going for translations in different languages (I love them too) before the release. SO the game I was supposed to create an ape of was Indy500, but as You can see I really moved a long way away from it ( I think) and I still didn't implement the most basic feature (race with AI). But I really feel like I cannot design a proper AI without being sure that all the controls, cars stats and maps are done and won't be altered anymore.

Thus this post. I am slowly getting sure that I want controls to be that way (not so much about the car stats themselves) - understeer, traction loss - all that i count as a "car stat" in that case since I all of those prepared as simple variables that I can change in seconds so that I can listen to feedback and CHANGE it. I can't promise You that Your feedback will be useful where by useful I mean - the game will be available on steam with leaderboard and that's when it will really matter, but that's what I'm striving for. If i feel like enough people enjoy it then it will make sense to pay for the page, I really just wanna beat all your best scores X))))

All in all please enjoy the game, get some feel on how the cars work (or at least one - each car is totally different so You can take the one that You enjoy the most and just test tracks with this car).  AAnd let me know what You think:) no matter if its gonna be one word or a whole damn essay I barely get any feedback and im hungry for reading what people think. If You leave a link to Your project I will double Your efforts in giving feedback (I really want this feedback please).

You can find few different modes so far
- test track mainly for getting a feel of the car
- drift - well drift :)
- free ride to get the feel of the track
- time attack and time challenge - time attack are normal tracks whereas challenge are really challenges which will give You zero chances to make errors - just for tryharders like me, don't bother if You get annoyed easily I dont want u to feel bad while testing my game and it will really make You feel that way

If You have any thoughts about modes or tracks themselves (either layout, ideas for new ones, or small changes in a given track) I'm also happy to hear it.

IF anyone is still interested to read EVEN MORE here is the latest DevLog that led to most of the changes recently https://mayzavan.itch.io/6-indy500/devlog/767322/big-update-for-1-bit-racers
THANKS A LOT FOR READING and please let me know that You went this far even if You don't want to test it - it helps with motivation :)

HOW IT LOOKS LIKE?:

Hi, I played your game!

What I Like:
-The simplistic graphics give it a unique look
-The car feels really nice to accelerate
-The variety of different game modes is nice

What You Should Improve:
-The graphics in the main menu feel very clunky and static - I know it's meant to be a retro style, but you still need some kind of feedback for pressing/ hovering over buttons
-Getting stuck on the walls is extremely inconvenient - Still make the car slow down a little, but not get stuck/stop, as it ruins the flow of playing the game and makes it feel like learning how to drive a car rather than racing a car, if that's what you were going for
-Add more sound effects  or even music - The game only has a few sound effects and could do with more
-Add more effects - I really like what you did with the skid marks/ smoke from the car, so try and do more of that (You could add sparks when hitting a wall, or effects depending on your speed, the more the better!)

Overall, great start. Just work on the graphics mainly, and you would've transformed the game just by doing that. I encourage you to do everything else I said though if you really want your game to be great!

As for feedback for one of my creations, if it's okay would you mind playing my game called Slugger? Link: https://proxyfirewall.itch.io/slugger-v1-4-7-shooter-singleplayer-action-fast-pa...
I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some feedback! I'm looking for feedback on all aspects - Graphics, Gameplay, Sound design, level design, pretty much anything you can think of giving feedback on. It'd help a ton!

Have a good one,
ProxyFirewall

Hi! Thanks a lot for feedback. Of course sound and music design is ONGOING just forgot to mention it lol hahaha I will take deeper look into all that when I'm back from work but frist things first I'll play Your game:))

Thanks again!

No problem!

Hi! So I already left a small opinion under Your game:) I hope it's helpful though I will play more due to the progression tomorrow when I have time (though I wanna make a game for Kenney Jam so not sure).
The UI, main menus and all are generally yet to change, but still this was not a priority, but I will try to definetely make it feel like something is happening in there, thanks for pointing out how static and boring it feels haha
About the wall - it's still an ongoing fight in my head. Really the only time it stops You is when You hit the wall from the front at certain angles (straight from the front will bump You back, while a bigger angle like hitting it with a back of the car while drifting will really just slow You down a bit). You can take a deeper look at it if You want, but honestly I feel like it feels a bit more fair compared to how it worked before. Especially after adding A LOT of grass.
Sound and music is of course yet to come:)
About more effects and particles might be a good idea. I don't have an idea yet what I can do, but definetely will try to work on some to make the game look more interesting thanks!

Sounds good! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! :)

Hi the game changed a bit - if anyone wants to take a look into SHORT devlog feel free - https://mayzavan.itch.io/6-indy500/devlog/770102/1-bit-racers-big-update

And I'm still looking for someone to test it - pleaaaase and leave any of your projects in comment as well thanks in advance!

Here's some feedback for ya!

Sorry about the video cutting off at the end.

Hi thanks a lot about video feedback! It really gave me a smile especially hearing someone laugh while picking one of the fastest cars:))
Few notes for myself (and maybe You if You'd ever play again (I hope You might cause best times are saved between sessions :)   )
- As for now I did not implement any kind of tutorial or controls options in game itself (although everything can be found in description below the game) - I will be working on that in the first place after seeing how much it disrupts the first time playing the game
- You are definetely right about the UI not lighting up when moving a mouse - added to do list on first position
- The other part that You might have skipped are oversteer and understeed under each car which are bound to velocity of the car - F1 typa fast car really doesn't let You turn at all at high speeds (it basically should work as a simulation where when driving this type of car You want to stick to road right? And if You turned too much at too high speed You would lose traction. Thus I implemented simplistic version of losing traction and lowering the steering angle so it looks a lot more realistic when watching the game.
- Also I might just do it the way that when You turn the game for the first time I will just push the player right into the Test track with some hints on controls and cars

Thanks a lot again!

I can give it another go sometime if you like!

Also, it would help me out a lot if you gave me some feedback on a game I'm developing.   It's called Cat Powered UFO.

https://thesneak.itch.io/cat-powered-ufo

I hope this weekend I will already upload a version that addresses a lot of the issues :) It would be more beneficient that time, thanks a lot!

I will play it right after i get back home from work!!

I just uploaded an update that adresses all of issues You mentioned! Thanks a lot again and I'm off to play Your game:)
