Did the game's performance take a nosedive over the past year?

i played this game a year ago and everything ran fine, 30-60 fps on medium settings on my old not so stellar PC. but now i'm playing on much more capable hardware and the game is running WORSE on this one than my old pc. what gives? please please please please optimize the game. it's mostly with the base having so many items, but the old base never ran this horribly. i really hope it's optimized in the future.

and before you say, yeah i have everything to minimum and it barely gives preformance boosts, and i can't lower the resolution cause i won't be able to see wtf is on the monitors

for me it mostly lags when a lot of lights are on in the base, i have to limit it to 2-3 or i'll start dropping frames

i hope that they soon can optimize the game, cause it's really cool seeing the new changes and stuff.

turning the shadows settings down but not 0 seems to significantly improve fps for me and i don't see any difference in the shadows and lights

what kind of CPU and GPU you have? Also, I've seen that the dev is trying to optimize the game. But he added lot of stuff as well.

playing it on my steamdeck, which can handle a lot more than what my Desktop could handle if you can believe it. i do believe that maybe cause i'm running it via proton it could cause preformance issues.

i think it has to do with the lighting, the more lights i have on, the worse the performance gets
i have to keep all of the lights in the base off other than the signal processing room in order to maintain a consistent 60 FPS

>test build< >pre-alpha< Try to pinpoint what is causing your issues to help the game dev.

just cause it's an alpha doesn't mean it's exempt from criticism. i am not bashing the dev or anything of the sort, i'm just giving my opinion out. i do understand that making games is hard, but feedback is also important.

(1 edit)

I think he meant to say to mention which version of the game you are playing. Because yes indeed going from 0.7 to 0.8 has significantly hit my frames. Or he wants you to find more specific bugs, I guess.

it was already a bit bad on 0.7, 0.6 had great frames but it's declined as more versions came out lol

on the 0.8 test version, i get about 40 to 39 frames while in the base

60 frames outside

Okay, i figured it out, it's the lighting. turn everything relating to lighting down to zero and it runs max 60FPS.

By the way, did you make sure your resolution was set to your monitor/steam deck screen's resolution? That tanks performance in my experience.

Same, i could play 0.63 with no lags at all on medium-high settings on laptop, and now my pc with  4060ti is struggling to render new base on low settings WITHOUT trash and lighting! It also comes from new monitors in main room, which there are more than 25 and every single one has a reflections and many of them are also 3D.

If you are playing it, 0.8.2b is obviously a test release so things might not run as well as before. But it does add more settings to tweak for performance,  such as disabling said reflections.

Talking about just 0.8.2 , because 0.8.2b won't even start and always show fatal error on startup.

I sometimes get below 100 fps on RTX 4090 + Ryzen 7950X

so yes, some optimization will be appreciated
