How do I upload an Android app?

Recently Google Play decided to remove all of my games due to a super dumb verification issue (thanks a lot google), and so I wanted to upload those games on itch to preserve them and keep them playable. I use Construct 3, and I am able to export the APK, but when I attempt to download the file on my phone, after asking if I wish to install the app, it states "App not installed as package appears to be invalid". I also tried downloading other users' Android games and those worked just fine, so I believe it isn't an issue with my device.

I asked the C3 forums and I was suggested to ask here, does someone know why it does this? And how do I fix it? Thanks a lot!

What you upload to Itch is the same thing that the user downloads, and Itch doesn't manage the installation of APKs, so there's not much you can do on Itch's side.

The only problem I can think of is that if you use buttler, maybe the file is compressed as a . zip, but when downloading on android, you should see the . zip and not an apk.

Try transferring the APK you create in construct directly from your PC to Android and install it, if the error persists, then it's a problem with the APK creation, and it will be much easier for them to help you on the C3 forum.

Check that what you download from Itch is the APK and not a ZIP.

I don't use butler, so maybe it's just some issues with the apk that I have to fix. I'll ask the C3 community again

It could be a setting. For example, if you selected Android version 11+ inside Construct and your phone is Android 10 it won't install. Android phones tend to give idiotic, rather than helpful messages when it can't install an app.

By the way, the Google verification thing is simply a form you fill in to state who you are and where you live. It wasn't complicated. That in itself shouldn't have gotten your account closed unless you simply ignored the request.

I think the minimum version I have it set to is 7, so that's not the problem.

It's less a verification issue but rather an issue that came up during the verification process. Apparently they couldn't verify my account because you have to be 18+ in order to be a dev on Google Play. How wonderful 😊

You have to be 18+ here too, if you publish things. This is nothing unusual.

Publishers affirm that they are either more than 18 years of age, or possess legal parental or guardian consent.

:(

You did read the second half of that sentence, did you? Full text ist here https://itch.io/docs/legal/terms
