Need help please ¿is my game in development?

Hi, I have a question.

I just announced that the expansion for my game is coming.

When that happens, the expansion will be the paid content and the base game will be free, which seems like a fair deal to me, as I understand that those who bought the game now will have the expansion later.

My question is, if the base game is complete and free, but the expansion is in development, how should I present the game?

Is it complete or in development?

Since the base game is already a full game in itself, I think it's fine to count it as complete. I would consider the expansion more of an update. But in the end, it's really your choice. Its fine to go about it either way.

My opinion is:  If you are already charging for the expansion, then you should disclose that the expansion is in development so people know what they are buying. If someone thinks they're  buying a completed game, and some features are missing, or there are bugs, they may ask for their money back, rather than wait for you to fix those issues.

You're right, I should give a preview of what I have planned for the expansion, I'll work on that.

My question is, if the base game is complete and free, but the expansion is in development, how should I present the game?

Depends what you want to do. Itch has no easy and ready to use dlc mechanic.

If you have a free game and make a paid expansion, then, just like that. But that is two different projects.

You can combine it on the same project if you use a individually priced file for the expansion or if you give the free base game with the demo mechanism and the expanded game as the paid version.

But what you say later does not sound like an expansion, but like an update that happens to have new content. And it depends if you want to give the "expansion" to people that already supported the free game.

As you say, I will offer the base game as a demo.

And yes, the idea is that those who paid for the base game will have the expansion.
