Global leader-board. Worth it?

Hi all.

I have just released an infinite-runner on itch.io. Its in an early stage of development, so there are a lot of features yet to be implemented. And one in that list was a global leader-board. But the problem is, I am not sure if it is worth the trouble.

I am not a huge fan of networking in games. It's tedious for me. Even in one of my previous games, it took me a lot of time and work to implement. That being said, many people did use leader-board in that game. So I am confused whether of not implementing a global leader-board in the new game is worth the trouble. This is a small-scale game, quite simplistic in style and game-play. I want to know if the presence or absence of a global leader-board will make much of a difference to the players.

Personal opinion, they are not worth it.

Some players are encouraged by having a global leader-board to compete and keep playing, but there is always someone who cheats and it is noticeable and that ends up being more harmful, which forces the developer to constantly make corrections and filters.

I think it is more useful to compare scores between friends, but in Itch you have no way to implement something like that.

Thank you for the reply. I think you are right, it has more cons than pros. I will just focus on implementing other features.
