Report after completing the tutorial

Hello!

I just successfully completed the tutorial on the Mac OS version of the game. I'm truly excited to play it, but I do have two bug reports to make:

1. Pressing CTRL+arrows to snap to the nearest cardinal heading doesn't seem to work on Mac. I have also tried all the other modifier keys just in case, but I've had no luck whatsoever.

2. Some of the sounds, most notably the one for the large saucers, are in stereo. This makes it nearly impossible to target them on the field, as what would be their center pan position is actually giving the player a full stereo image. Downmixing the sounds to mono will fix this issue.

Thank you!

Hi hi!

My apologies for the double message, but I did actually manage to play the game for a while and I have a few more comments.

- The sound for your bullets traveling seems to be somehow panning from left to right or vice versa for no apparent reason. Bullets should be moving forwards as far as I can tell, but the sound doesn't reflect this.

- It's not very easy to get an idea of your location within the field. I think there could be a few more positional indicators, such as:

  * Very subtle sounds while you turn to indicate when you pass through a cardinal point, either sped up recorded speech or a very short beep that would indicate the direction. Right now, since turning is so quick, I lose my bearings after a short while. Hopefully this is not just me. :D

* A slight but noticeable difference in sound for the North-South and East-West edges. I don't think all four need to be different, especially if we get cardinal point indication, but I think it would be useful to be able to tell at least the pairs apart.

- I don't know how I'd go about solving this, but it's very very easy to accidentally crash into an asteeroid while accelerating to get to another one, or to reposition yourself. I think the highest speed is much too quick to do anything useful in the game.

I'll let you know if I find anything else. Thank you so much for your work!

I also just spent some time playing on the Windows version, first with an xBox controller and then the keyboard. Since I also just have some general thoughts I figured it would be better to just put them here rather than making a new thread

First of all, I'm really digging the controller support, with some great force feedback to boot as well, more games need to do this! It felt really weird switching to the keyboard after playing a few rounds with the controller.

As far as the controls, I'm trying to decide if they're oversensitive or not... At first I thought that they felt od, I felt as though there was a delay before you started turning and when you do start you turn way too fast, though eventually it stopped feeling like this, so IDK if it's just a case of my mind getting used to it or if there may indeed need to be some tweaks done. Also, I'm not sure if there's any kind of analog control when using a controller, I didn't really feel much of a difference between pushing the stick all the way or just slightly. The teleport, meanwhile, felt a little too easy to trigger, it feels as though if you push the stick ever so slightly down even by accident it seemd to activate accidentally a few times.

Other than that, +1 to Guilevi's suggestions. Otherwise this game is an absolute blast, the playing field can be turned into absolute chaos if you're not careful and this is great!

Hello, and thanks for the feedback!

Turning is very fast, so let’s see if you get used to it. If not, and if others have issues, I’ll slow it down.

There is no gradual speed ramp-up. You’re either full-on accelerating or you aren’t. I take your point about teleport being too easy to trigger, though. I’ll make it less sensitive in the next build.

Developer

Thanks, oopse, I’ll downmix the saucer sounds in the next build. I’ll also look into the snapping issue.

Which version of MacOS are you on? I have one report of speech not working at all on MacOS, but it worked for me in testing, so it’s interesting to hear that it works for you.

Another quick note:

Played a round on my Mac, and for some reason, the snap command is Ctrl+Win+Left/Right arrow. That, of course, is on a PC keyboard. I’ll have to see if there’s an engine bug for this, or if I can add the correct MacOS scancode.

Thanks for all the other feedback.

Hello,

I just now saw the new build. Thank you so, so much! Will be testing it in a minute, but the release notes seemed to address almost everything.

I'm running 10.13 High Sierra. This is quite an old machine, so it's possible that this is part of the issue. Everything else works perfectly though.

Thank you!

Developer

Cool, let me know if you figure out the correct key combination and I’ll update the docs and tutorial.
