Forced immobility on death

I'm curious why we're forced immobile after death while the invincibility is active. When that period is over, we respawn in a totally different location. I guess I'm asking if this is intended behavior? From where I'm sitting, it seems more like a bug than a feature, but I'm not sure.

Edit: I must correct myself, you don't actually respawn. After checking coordinates on death and after I can move again, they remain the same. I originally thought this changed because sometimes things would go quiet or the environment would change a
bit.

It is indeed a feature as described in the manual, with the exception of the random respawn, that having not been put in the readme. I do see that happening on my end as well, though.

OK, I see it now. I'll have to pay attention to how often it respawns me in a new location, I think it's a lot.

So to confirm, neither of you are being respawned? Also note that colliding sometimes moves you, so if you’re hit at (0, 0), it wouldn’t be unusual for the asteroid to bump you to (1, 0) or similar.

What happened on death in the original Asteroids? I figured it made sense to have a slight break in the action, but am open to changing that if needed.

I think it just plopped you down, I can't remember. I've lost two lives in a row from time to time because I'll be just that amount of unlucky and it'll be right there as my invincibility ends. I don't know if that's a bad thing. There's probably got to be some sort of luck involved.
