I really LOVE the atmosphere that the models and pre-rendered backgrounds create together, it has a very unique 90s VHS aesthetic.
The story was really intriguing, and I hope there's more. I think a bit of atmospheric sound could also make the experience a bit more exceptional!
Would agree with all the other comments - the pre-rendered backgrounds and the character models are both absolutely fantastic, managing to be both very 90s and also very original with the strong colour palette and very distinctive camera angles. The standout model for me was the teacher from the maths class, the red colour really stands out and the swaying was kind of unsettling to me.
World building is great. Dialogue is nicely open, with clear themes but plenty of room for player interpretation.
Really strong aesthetic, I love the player character's hunched walk cycle and the prerendered backgrounds.
Thanks! I was playing old PS1 games Parasite Eve and Galerians and I was in love with their weird art styles, the 3d models against prerenders and I wanted to do my own take on it!
I adooore the art direction, the blue and red color scheme of the backgrounds is so good! Really interesting commentary on the current state of schooling. Going to echo the previous comment that I wish there were a bit more in terms of gameplay, I think that this premise would lend itself nicely to stealth mechanics navigating around the school or avoiding tragedies that occur. Would love to see an extended version in the future!!
Thank you!!!!! Hopefully we can expand this in the future.
Very interesting game! I like the models and the pre-rendered backgrounds, both were done very well. There's not very much sound or ambience, that would add a lot to the atmosphere. I found a bug where, when I try to move to a new location or listen to dialogue, I had to press E multiple times before it would work. I think the concept has potential, but there's just not much gameplay. (Spoilers) There's not any real danger or consequences if you fail the test. I think it would be cool if you had to make it through a whole day of school, solving puzzles and tests in various subjects, all the while avoiding the soldier and other ominous figures. I'd like to see this concept expanded, it's got good potential!
Also, I can't really properly rate the most-improved category, as there seems to be no download for the previous version.
Thank you so much! Sorry to hear about that bug, that's odd. I'm glad you enjoy the concept. Yeah, our original concept was like what you described - a whole day of school full of challenges, constantly on the edge of losing it and starting over, and somehow persevering to the end of a day.....only to realize that this is what is expected of you every day. In the end, our time constraints meant we could only make what we did, but I like how it turned out as a sort of sample. If we build upon this in the future, we'll let you know!
Thanks! Keep up the good work!
