You're super duper creative with that Front view battle system.
I think it will be more gruesome if enemies blood splash on screen sometime :)

Woah, there are some skills on display here! It may not be *perfect,* but this is an incredible production for a 2-week game jam game!
An overall critique I have of the game is the lack of tutorials. You get thrown into battles without really knowing what each option is there for (though it's intuitive enough that I figured it out eventually), the hacking system is not explained AT ALL, and sometimes it's not clear where you are supposed to go or what to do. For example, at one point you say I need to get to an escape pod. OK, where are those? Is it in a new area, or in an earlier place?
I love the use of front-view here. Not many devs can make front view battle scenes interesting, but you nailed it. Well done! Digging in on critical things, I felt like the early battles were pretty hard since I was just getting used to the mechanics of the system, the flamer was a little OP (though it did speed some of the early encounters and kept the game from being too boring), and the combination of random battles with scripted battles rubbed me wrong (I do appreciate the low encounter rate, at least). It also wasn't clear early on how spammable the skills are. If it were somehow clearer that there would be plenty of supplies to find later, I would have felt more confident experimenting with the different ammo types earlier. Once I got a good stockpile I felt good enough about using the ammo liberally, which was a huge quality of life improvement (unless you were one of the enemies 😆).
I did encounter a bug when entering one of the rooms toward the end:
That was the only major flaw I encountered that required a restart. I applaud the otherwise lack of bugs.
The intro mentions the credits would somehow fix things at the end. This was an odd choice given the tone of the game, and I ultimately didn't see how that tied in. Although there is a conclusion to the story, it feels a little unresolved since the primary objective (getting back to Earth) is never accomplished.
Now, the art. It's amazing. Being a bit of an artist myself, I want to nitpick the walking animation of the main character being too stiff, but it's a nitpick. There is very little "default RPG Maker" here, and the photo-real walking sections blew my mind. I think you've inspired me to take my visual presentations to the next level!
Sound & music was fitting throughout the game. I recognized some default RPG Maker sounds, but there's plenty of custom work, too. Although there isn't really anything that struck me as noteworthy, I really can't complain about anything, either.
This is overall a superb jam entry. Way to go!
The sequel everyone has been waiting for! Smart move to start with the chilling end of Gargantuan Part 1. You've done some truly original things with RPGM, and I love it! This game was pretty combat intensive, and felt like somewhat of a resource management challenge. Killing all enemies while using as few resources as possible kept the challenge up, but the game was still very beatable even with mistakes.
While you were able to really nail the animations and first person combat and exploration, the ending just did not have that punch that the last one did. The sense of doom at seeing the asteroid reach earth was so palpable, but in this one, the impact has already occurred. The stakes just seemed low, and Deckar's entire adventure felt like an afterthought to the destruction his home town and (maybe?) the world. Gameplay wise, this is a worthy sequel and has some really nice additions. Story-wise, the game just makes me eager for episode 3.
Completely agree with you about the ending, there was so much more I wanted to do but I ran out of time and the writing and story suffered because of it. I think once the jam is over I'll make the improvements and try to finish part 3 before the next Hawktober, so that I can try something new next year.
What a cool first person battle system! The animations were great, especially the satisfying popping of the eyeball monsters. It was definitely creepy crawling through that slimy tunnel. Time to wait for part 3...
I really enjoyed this one! <3 Since its supposed to be a sequel, and I went and played the first! :D Both games were very fun and really felt Cosmic Horror with its premise! The graphics and usage of them were just simply amazing!! You even used 3D enemies and 3D places to crawl into! I always get anxiety during those parts, as I expect a jump scare. xD :D The battles were really fun and well-balanced! The animations helped bring so much life to the front view battles! And the effort is clearly there! There's some tragedy in the story, as it all felt like hopelessness for Earth. x( :( But overall! This is a really cool game and I'm looking forward for more from the dev! Great job!! :D
Solid presentation, battles felt like you need to use everything at your disposal, a relatively gripping experience as you traverse through the area. Hits the essence of a terror truly beyond our understanding. An effective and truly worthy sequel to the previous Gargantuan.
This is an interesting entry. The presentation is solid and makes good use of custom assets. The first person perspective battles are well done, with enemies dying in bloody messes that even have some variance with their graphics. There's little details like that which show the effort put into making the game feel immersive.
The music is well used and fitting for the tone of each event. As simple as they were, I liked the 'hallway' and 'ventilation' sections which required player input to move through the 'environment', clever usage of image stretching to simulate movement.
Every skill is useful and there are items which come in handy during a pinch. I actually don't want to spoil my observations because I think discovering these sort of things for yourself is part of the experience.
