  • Good audio and SFX.  Liked Jimbo's attack noises.  Good character animations.  Liked how the enemies changed on the backtrack to find the key, keeping it interesting.  Appreciated the effort to build some story.  I haven't seen many Blender games, but this is a good example of what can be achieved on the platform.

  • The art style, music and animations were fantastic. A submission 1 day, 3 hours before the deadline you are a beast. Unfortunately, the game controls really detracted from the overall user experience. Have you considered porting it to a different game engine?

  • I really enjoyed this game! I saw some other people had issues running the game but the .bat file worked fine for me so no issues there. It's always good to have entries from engines other than Unity, I love seeing what people can do with the range of software and technology that is currently available to game developers. I do have a few suggestions that I think may improve the overall experience.

1 - The controls are a bit intuitive. WASD controls are fine, but I think it would have been a lot more comfortable if the space bar was for jump and then either the left mouse button, or the e or f key was for attacking.

2 - The movement felt a bit imprecise. I assume this is because it is rigidbody/force based movement as I noticed that you do build up speed the longer you move for. I think that you either need to add a sprint ability for a temporary boost of speed, or rework the controller so the movement speed doesn't take as long to accelerate.

3 - The colour of all of your text was hard to see. You need to make sure that your text is clearly visible to players so that are able to read it. So you either need to adjust the colour of the text, or add a panel behind the text of a lighter colour which will make the text in the foreground readable.

All in all though this was a really fun game, awesome work!

the black popup text appearing did not stand out very well from the mostly grey background. perhaps a different colour or an outline would have helped

Developer

Ohh! I agree! I totally meant to put a translucent blue frame behind the text but my brains went to mush somewhere around that point and it missed the polishing process, along with the slow movement!

I don't remember seeing Jimbo as a natural enemy to turtles in Turtle Trivia, or are they tortoices?

Good effort.

Developer

Hahaha, well I kept thinking ladybugs at first, then when i started modelling, it turned into a turtloid creature. :'D I meant to make others but time was not on my side, so Turtloids and Super Turtloids was what made it in! Thanks for trying it out.

With an odd choice of engine i would like to believe the areas which could be improved such as player movement was due to the support by the engine and not programming errors, although as this i believe has more sound effects than other submissions i do feel like its somewhat more of a complete product than others.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Actually I blame myself for the poor movement, I could have done a lot better there, poor choice of physics on my part, with another day I of polishing that's something I would have taken care of first.

The batch file worked fine for me!

Great job man, I always enjoy your Blender creations!

I could get the game to work nor could I get the character to move.

Developer

what OS and GPU were you using? When you said you could get it working, how did you get it to work?

Developer

Also were you still in the title screen? You need to press P to leave the title screen, thats just a screenshot in the title screen. Could you navigate the title screen menus? Sorry, the 3 PCs I tested with worked so any information I can get would be greatly appreciated.

i couldnt get it to run it just wouldnt work

You mean "couldn't"?

Sorry i meant couldnt sorry about the confusion

Developer

Could you try to download upbge from here https://download.upbge.org/ then run that version of blender and open up my jimbo.blend file from my package with it? Then select "Start Game engine" from the top Game menu drop down? It's possible that your gfx card doesn't support the newer version of GLSL that UPBGE uses but it would be really helpful if you were to test it out for me. Thanks again for the feedback and clearing up your error.
