Track description | Creative process
I started out by listening to some of the soundtrack for Guilty Gear Xrd and Strive (discovering some great songs in the process) and decided I wanted to do a song with vocals.

I recorded the guitars with an Epiphone Les Paul Standard through a Focusrite Solo gen 4 and double tracked it. Some parts could be more in sync and played more cleanly, especially the final chorus.

For bass I used Modo Bass 2 and for drums I used Addictive Drums 2 Studio Rock.

I'm not a great lyricist (nor vocalist). To come up with the lyrics I looked through the Guilty Gear Wiki page for Axl Low and I homed in on the fact that he's a time traveller with a girlfriend in the past and wrote the lyrics around that.
The lyrics ended up being quite sentimental and I’m not sure how well they fit Axl Low who seems to be a pretty cheerful character from what little research I did.

I recorded the vocals using a Blue Yeti microphone I bought years ago that I've barely used.

Listening to "Love the Subhuman Self" inspired me to add some vocal harmonies (unison and octave) to the chorus and a few other parts.

The vocals took a lot of takes and I scrapped the original comp take I had and recorded some better takes. I did some pitch correcting with melodyne on the lead vocals and also used it a lot on the backing vocals to make sure those parts didn't end up sounding dissonant. I feel like they might still be a bit off though, but I'm not sure.

I feel like this ended up more of a typical sentimental J-Rock kind of thing while the Guilty Gear soundtrack has much more of a heavy metal/rock sound.

The lyrics and vocals are awesome! The bass line sounds really reminiscent of what I've heard of the soundtrack. Nice job!

First off, kudos on performing a vocal piece. The guitar performance is good and the fuzz tone has a nice creamy texture. Personally I would've liked it if you had let the whole note at the end of the solo (2:24) ring out a bit longer, maybe gradually fade it out as the vocals came back in? I also felt"haaaave" at 1:23 could've used a little more breath support. But those are just nitpicks, really cool song overall!

Oh man, vocals! What a brave submission, good stuff!! Also, so fitting with the character!

Personally, I’d want everything to hit harder. More distorted guitars and bass. More velocity on the drum hits. But awesome work!
