Not my kind of game but I really like the music and the HAM graphics and overall presentation. Plus points for doing something different.

Thanks. It was just a test to see if I could get some BASIC code to function like a game in CanDo. I should have worked on it for longer but I ran out of ideas for it. I should have used the idea to make a civilisation, but I spent way too long on my FMV games this year instead. Your EV2 definitely needs to be on the podium this year, and only Fast Food 2 comes close to it.
I never played the original version (came out when I was born even though my dad had all sorts of compy stuff around the house at the time). I really enjoyed the music and the graphics, very impressive for the Amiga! The intro was fantabulous! The gameplay initially was intimidating, but once I got a few runs in (after starving multiple hundreds of people), I got the hang of it and I'm looking forward to not becoming a NATIONAL FINK!
Very happy you thought the game was ok. Yes there is definitely a rhythm to it after a while, as you can ignore the buy and sell options for the most part, and just feed the people and use the rest to plant. With the updated game, you run the risk of having things destroy the crops, but also the chance of double grain, so you take a gamble. Playing the 1978 version with the speech can feel retro and educational for the grand kids. I rushed the game and could have made it better, but the intro is nice as you say.
Really impressive visuals.
The intro is like a film production! Great work there!
Thanks for including the original game too as a tribute and for anyone who never played it, to see where the sequel originated from! Your game does seem to follow up to its predecessor nicely by bringing it back with outstanding visuals which were missing from the original!
Thanks mailman!
Yes, it could have done with some more depth, like a Sim Sumerian game, but this is just the original BASIC game but with a few extra quests. The main game for the jam was meant to be Crysis, but when that wasn't suitable, I broke off from that for a few months to make this. So it is just a throw away entry for the jam. But I did have fun playing the game with the speech mode, and making the game playable by the blind. Yes, all coded in Cando!
This game is an odd one. Not my kinda game tbh but still enjoyed the concept of it, Loved the HAM graphics and helping "rain beat my crops" lol. Unsure of the depth but was still funky. Happily try it again sometime, will it be a full game at some point? Might be cool then?
Happily give it a 3.8 when i can rate. Thanks for giving me an unusual experience on the Amiga!
Hello. This is basically the whole game, although it feels like a prototype. It is based on the 1978 code, in a little higher res. I recently added a section on my itch page about how to beat the game, and even a cheat mode. There is no depth to the game, it is basically the 1978 experience, that's why I included both game modes.
Welcome to my submission.
This game is based on the original 1978 code, but has some new backdrops and questions.
Hammurabi was released several times on the Amiga!, and under different names, for example:

The game is now finished, or at least, the last of the annoying bugs have now finally gone, so I can release it. If there are any changes necessary after this, they will be small changes. To be honest, I'm done with the game, and unless something is broken, I'm not going to change it any further.
If you look at the dev log, it took 17 sessions to make this, so if each one was at least 3 hours, then I'd say the game was created in 51 hours. It seems a very long time for a 46 year old type-in game. But I'd say at least 25% of that time was spent trying to implement things, and 75% of that time was spent trying to fix them! Sodding bugs!
I certainly don't expect to win any accolades (presents) or prizes, as I dont own the copyright on this code, so I cant charge money for my game as a result. But the whole idea was to create something suitable for the Jam, and after a few false starts, I created a game for the Jam.
It's not much, but I didn't want to just adapt my Empire Protector code to make a Monopoly clone, or a snake game. So instead I took one part of the Empire Protector (Kingdoms of England) formula, and made a land development game instead, to tend the fields. Of course, the next idea would be to adapt this code to a real Dark Age scenario, and make a Defender of the Crown game, only with King Arthur instead. That would be a big challenge to code in 6 months, and I didn't have that idea when I started this project. I learn by making things - one little thing at a time.
