Great quick and fast paced game, grabs you right away and forces you to think and learn how to play the game on your own. It was hard at first but once you've gone through a play through or two and upgraded your speed and atk speed etc it gets a little more user friendly! The music is very fitting and love the jump scares from the 2nd stage bats! Would be a fantastic mobile game as well.

Super fun game - simple yet addicting and love the spooky theme for the season. Great work Turtle Socks can't wait to see what else you have in store.

Pretty fun, I liked the music and sounds. Visuals are also good, those spider are hard to see and blend with the background, but I'm having Minecraft invisible spiders flashback, so I'm going to say it's intended.

I'm not sure, but I feel like you are not going as fast when you are going in a diagonal (pressing two buttons) as when you are going straight, so I ended up just going in large circles around the map. I got wreck by the giant spider on wave 5 I think, don't think I could escape, would I've loved a movement speed upgrade! Other than that, yeah, shield visuals, I could see the purple bar going down, but that's such a small part of the screen to focus on when so many things are coming your way.

I did like the variety of monsters and that you get larger version later on, pretty neat, might be a touch too big though, couldn't see a thing haha.

Really polished, feels like a complete package, with nice art and sound, very good work! My two complaints would be that I was similarly confused by the shield, never quite got a feel for when it was active in the midst of the general mayhem, and that the difficulty curve felt a bit unfair... which was chiefly a problem because I wanted to play and see more!

Yeah... I actually got similar feedback on the shield during play testing, but it got put on the back log and didn't make it in time. I'm going to write the code for this today though since it seems to be the #1 issue!

As far as difficultly, the last commit I pushed before submitting was an attempt to add more variety and I did not test it well enough apparently because the day after I realized it was incredibly hard past wave 5. You can actually play the rebalanced version here: https://turtiesocks.github.io/pumpkin-palooza/

Note to other game jam reviewers, please play the version on itch before playing the above so you can evaluate the submission fairly!

Thanks for playing!

This is cute. I liked the diversity of the enemies in the crowd, it was fun to seem them build up. It would have been nice to have a clearer indication of when the shield was active. There was the purple status bar that I think was the shield cooldown and that shrank when I activated the shield but there was nothing visible in the game itself. And sometimes that bar wouldn't change when I pressed space even though I seemed to be blocking damage. Maybe that was a bug but either way it would have been nice to have an indicator on the character.

100% agree on the shield, thanks for playing!
