Welcome to the Bookmark Microgame-Jam 2024: Holiday Edition! 🎄✨ We’re so excited to have you here and can’t wait to see all the creative ideas you’ll bring to life during this festive game jam. But before we dive into the jam, let’s get to know each other a bit better!

This discussion board is all about introductions! Whether you’re a seasoned game designer, a complete beginner, or somewhere in between, we’d love to hear about you. Feel free to share a little about yourself, your interests, and what you’re excited about for this jam.

Here are some ideas to help get you started:

What’s your name or online handle? 🎮

Where are you from? 🌍

Have you participated in a game jam before? If so, what’s been your favorite jam? 🎨

What inspires you to create games? đź’ˇ

Do you have any holiday traditions or winter activities you love? ❄️🎅

What theme(s) are you most excited to explore in this jam? 🏔️✨

Do you have any fun or quirky facts about yourself to share? 🎉

Feel free to be as brief or as detailed as you’d like. This is a casual, friendly space to connect with fellow creators, share stories, and build a sense of community as we head into the holiday season.

Don’t be shy—jump in and say hello! 👋 We can’t wait to get to know everyone and make this jam the best yet.

Hello!

Host

Hey there!

Welcome to this year’s BMGJ!

Can't wait! I participated last year!

Host

That’s awesome—welcome back! 🎉 We’re so excited to have you join us again this year. Your participation last time means a lot, and we can’t wait to see what amazing ideas you’ll bring to the jam this year.

I'm Arcain! I'm from the United States, and I've participated in 3 game jams since the year started, and I hope to end the year with one more! I've done all my game jams solo, but I'm open to being in a team as well if anyone is interested in working with me.

I have all my games posted on my profile, and my most recent one is Foxfire Alchemy, and I'm very proud of the mechanics of that one (getting fire to spread is surprisingly difficult). However, I'm most proud of my second game's story, Mind or Body, but I do wish I spent more time making better mechanics for it.

I think I'm most excited to try and make something for the Mystical Forest, Winter Wonders, or Tales by the Fire themes! They all sound nice, and if it's allowed I might even try an idea that combines multiple themes.

Pirate Software inspired me to start creating games, and I've participated in both of the game jams he held this year. He helped me realize how much fun creating games was, and I really recommend people to check out his content if you haven't heard of him. Despite the name, his content doesn't have anything to do with Pirating Software

Hi Arcain, welcome!

We’re so glad to have you here, and wow—three game jams this year? That’s amazing! It’s great that you’ve been jamming solo but are open to teaming up. Who knows, maybe you’ll find the perfect group to collaborate with soon!

Foxfire Alchemy sounds like a really fun challenge—getting fire to spread can definitely be tricky, but that’s what makes it so rewarding when it works, right? And I love that you’re proud of the story in Mind or Body—stories have such a lasting impact, and it’s cool that you’ve been able to experiment with both mechanics and narrative.

It’s exciting that you’re eyeing the Mystical Forest, Winter Wonders, or Tales by the Fire themes for the next jam. Combining them could lead to something really unique and creative!

Thanks for the recommendation of Pirate Software, too. It’s always great to see how creators inspire each other, and it’s clear you’re already doing that yourself with your own work!

Best of luck in the next game jam—we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I'm  Brich90, I'm from the United States, Yes I have it was the last one I participated in early 2016, What inspired me to create was I played the Nintendo 64 a lot and I imagined my own games.

Hey Brich90!

Welcome back! It’s so cool to hear about your inspiration—playing Nintendo 64 and imagining your own games sounds like such a fun way to get creative. Those early gaming memories really do stick with us, don’t they?

We’re really excited to have you back in the game jam scene, and I hope you have an amazing time this year! Can’t wait to see what ideas you bring to life.

If you ever need anything or just want to chat about your project, feel free to reach out. Have fun and good luck!

Yeah, is there a way to form a team on these jams, this is my first game jam in years and the first I've done on this site.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to form teams for these jams. In past game jams, we haven’t had any groups form, and it looks like this year will be similar with a smaller number of participants. That being said, the games here are pretty simple and solo-friendly, so it should be manageable.

Howdy, everyone!

What’s your name or online handle? 🎮

That depends! lol

On here, my page is called Kalli's Creation Station.

My festival vending name is Kalli's Wagon of Art.

My online store is Doorman's Trading Post.

I have several YouTube channels, with the main one being Da12thKind.

On forums, Discord, and some other social media platforms, I go by a combination of Kallias and Da12thKind.

Where are you from? 🌍

Southeast Texas (United States of 'MERICA). The absolute worst environment for my body to exist in lmao

Have you participated in a game jam before? If so, what’s been your favorite jam? 🎨

Yep! I've submitted to 13 game jams and 2 bundles! My favorite so far has got to be the Underwater Horror Jam, where the three themes to choose from were "fixed perspective," "megalophobia," and "monster's perspective." For that jam, I made a game called Containment Breach wherein you (and up to a few other friends) took on the role of a monster trying to escape from your "abductors" (humans) and their "strange, cold, and smoothed-wall cave" (underwater research station).

What inspires you to create games? đź’ˇ

Honestly? Creating art for the sake of creating. Sometimes I put a price tag on my stuff, especially when being a vendor at a festival, but that's because making physical stuff costs money, and, well, Momma's gotta eat lol

These more unique jams are also a major inspiration! I never would have zines in the first place if it wasn't for the Zine Jam: Hobbies Edition event back in 2021.

I mostly try to seek out these writing/physical things/ttrpg jams, as making literature and ttrpgs is much easier for me than making video games, albeit I am trying to get into the habit of using programs like RPG Maker more regularly.

Do you have any holiday traditions or winter activities you love? ❄️🎅

I'm not sure if it counts, but I always wish for a cold winter (which tends to either not happen or just not be consistent) so I can have an excuse to wrap myself up in my house coat and just lay about lol

What theme(s) are you most excited to explore in this jam? 🏔️✨

I think I could do something with either the "Cozy Cabin" or "Winter Wonders" themes, but I'm torn if I want the mood to be cozy or scary ha ha.

Do you have any fun or quirky facts about yourself to share? 🎉

I'm so #quirky lol. In all seriousness, I'm a bi, enby transfemme, and I've been making digital art (mostly in the form of videos, but more recently includes pixel art and game development) for over 15 years!

Hey everyone, happy to be here! I missed last year's bookmark jam but I wasn't going to make the same mistake again. I really love this concept! I have participated in many game jams this year: Having a prompt and a deadline help me spark my creativity, browsing through all the rough ideas that I pencil down when they come to my head. I like to make minimalist or solo games, mainly; you can check them on my page.

Here's my submission:  https://echoriver.itch.io/titivillus-is-hungry I wanted to make something that wasn't just "a game in a bookmark space", but which intertwines somehow with the act of reading.

It doesn't follow any of the proposed topics, but I may think of another game since we still have time. Merry Christmas btw!
