Amazing what can be done with only two colors ! Sometimes it gets a bit hard to understand what's in front of me and where I'm shooting at though. Maybe making the bullets a little bit bigger would help. Great Game overall !

Developer

thanks for playing Kerdelos! The size of the bullets are like that because of the visual style i chose, yes you are right even i agree that the bullets are really small and can blen into the background pretty easily and i can see how that would make the player experience pretty bad. But it was a sacrifice that i had to make in order to keep the style. I hope you still enjoyed the game and i hope you have a fantastic time!

Pretty good game. I liked the balance of having to worry about enemy spawners and the black hole at the same time. For some feedback, I'd day make the health kits more obvious. Im still not exactly sure if Im picking up something to restore health or if it happens after a certain amount of kills or what. Otherwise, great game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

thanks for your review! I tried my best adding as much indications as i can because im not a big fan of UI elements. The general idea is you have a 1 in 5 chance of healing when you kill an enemy although this is not a solid nor responsive way of healing i had to resort to it because when i was implementing the health system i was really starting to run out of ideas, i didn't want to add an extra item because it would have easily got lost in the middle of the metric ton of meat that is usually on the ground. I will update the tutorial scene for a more indepth explaination in the post jam update. Thanks for your review again! I wish you luck in the jam

Very interesting concept. Beautifully designed pixel graphics. I liked the growing hole mechanics. Nice work!

Nice game! A bit easy at first, but gets harder when there are some shooting enemies . Actually their bullets are maybe a little hard to see sometimes, but willing to sacrifice that for these aesthetics ;)
Btw the graphic style reminded me of Sandstorm by managore (https://managore.itch.io/sandstorm), was that a reference ?

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing Jibbs! i tried my best to smoothen out the difficulty curve of the waves and i guess the shooting enemies can indeed be a little hard due to the spawn algorithm.

about the game you mentioned, no i had no idea about this game i chose this pallet because i remember someone using it in ludum dare 42 and i thought it was an interesting pallet. but after watching the trailer for Sandstorm i considering to download the game so thanks for your recommendation as well

Extremely impressive game! Love the aesthetic of it.
Don't know if bug or intentional, but the hole just kinda vanished the moment I picked up the minigun upgrade.
Either way, for being so simple in design, it was still very fun and satisfying to play. Would love to see more of it!

Developer

thanks for the feedback snowy! about the minigun upgrade yes it is intentional. happy to see that you made it to 500

i plan to update the game after the jam ends so if you have any criticism or any ideas on how to improve the game i will be happy to hear them!

Great game, great aesthetics! I am impressed about the detailed tutorial. The gameplay is tight and I like the ominous "hole".

This is a simple shooter, but you also have to manage "the hole", so it doesn't grow in size and consumes you, which is a nice addition.

Really impressive game. Graphics were so simplistic yet super telling! Awesome Job!!

Developer

Thanks tarzand! im glad you liked it!

I thought your game was very fun and the inclusion of a tutorial, be that a comprehensive one is pretty good for a jam game. Your art although simple looks very pleasing to the eye because of the inclusion of only 2 colours. All that I would like is some more juice for example screen shake when you kill an enemy... Other than that that game was a very enjoyable experience and one of the better ones in this jam!

Developer

thanks for your review Sparrow! i tried adding screen screen shake when the enemies died but since you are killing enemies left and right, it would have been a little disorienting. I'll add an option for that in the post jam version!

Solid game, consistent aesthetic, tight controls, clear objectives. Nothing to complain about. All around some good fun!

Submitted(+1)

Love the dialogues! The fact that you got a full tutorial on a Jam entry is really impressive! The game is very intuitive to get to know, and it's fun!

I just wish you had a bit more time to invest in this game! I want more!

The think I thing your game could improve on is the gameplay. It would be cool if it were more to it than laying waste to endless enemy waves, but hey, the game got me hooked!

The base is there and the execution is very nice.

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing vikepic! the fact that i managed to make the tutorial work shocked me as well since most dialogue based tutorials take atleast a day to make(in my experience atleast) but it ended up being the source of a lot of bugs so it was more trouble than it was a relief .

about the games content. at first i was going to make this game a exploration experience where go on an adventure across the desert finding clues on how to destroy the hole. like the outer wilds but at the end i stood back and thought to myself and realized that the nature of gamejams dictate that the games cant be too long. the reviewers have a lot of games to go through and they cant invest alot of time into one game so i ended up looking at my idea more like a mini game that an entire game.

i got a lot of feedback from the players and i will try to add more content into this game as soon as i can (after the jam ends of course) and maybe i will get along making the adventuring part

once again thanks for reviewing the game. i wish you a fantastic day!

I had fun playing your game. Thanks for uploading this. Cool idea, and i love the pixel art.

I reduced the hole to almost zero radius. Is it really possible to eliminate this hole completely?
Good job btw

Developer

thanks for playing! Yes there is a way but you have to be really good at the game to do it :)

Submitted(+1)

every thing in tis game is just awesom

i love games like thes, simple and funny,

be carefull the UI in the top left corner is invisibe when the hole is in that place or any creatur

lov the caracter designe and how he has the same parts as the old man just misplaced

and the tutorial is very cool by the way, oh and also the font

great job

I enjoyed.

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing Marouan! For me the biggest challenge in making this game was the art and im glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

What a fun game! The controls are slick, and you have a very well grounded aesthetic. Somehow the enemies stopped spawning after a while, but either ways, having a growing black hole definitely upped the play factor.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

thanks for playing nightworks! the problem you encountered is probably to do with the tutorial scene. its very broken since it was added in the last minute. i suggest reloading the page after you go through the tutorial. i will fix all of the bugs in a post jam version!

Submitted(+1)

Nice art. I would balance difficulty more. You can get a lot of time by just not killing last enemy. There is nothing that would push player further that much.

I would change:
1. Center Hole should be getting smaller quicker, maybe some "charge shot" for that? Shot like that would be pointless against enemies but would hit blackhole better.
2. Game should reward killing more, in gameplay. I had no idea I have points for killing too.

Other than that, great game

Developer

Thanks for playing! i'll try to add these in post jam

Submitted(+1)

Nice game, I wish there was a hardcore mode :)

Developer

thank you! i was going to add a difficulty but i ran out of time, this version will be for the jam. i will defiantly add difficulty options in the post jam update

Submitted(+1)

pretty nice would be better if we had the option to use the wasd to move around as it's easier to control when we have to use a mouse

Developer

thanks for playing! You can indeed move with WASD. i forgot to disable arrow keys for movement. i added a tutorial for the game in case you are an early play tester all of the mechanics are explained there. thanks for playing again!

Submitted(+1)

Love the visual style. Animations and gameplay were nice. Although it did seem a little hard to keep track of the player and everything which was happening XD. Nice game none the less

Developer

thanks for playing! yes i agree, the player is a little hard to keep track of in the game since everything only made out of 2 colors but it was a sacrifice that i had to make in order to keep the style i was looking for.

Submitted(+1)

Very fun little game, I forget to shoot the hole that was growing and got so large I was at the edge of the screen begging for dear life!

Developer(+1)

thanks for your review! the thing with the hole is mostly my fault, i didn't have enough time to implement an in-game tutorial. i hope the rest of the game was fun for you.

Submitted(+1)

Even if there was no in-game tutorial it still was really fun :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks to your playing testing, i finally got around adding a tutorial! thank you for your suggestion

Submitted(+1)

Really love what you did with the new update, feels really nice and love the tutorial!

Got far in the game (Pic)

Developer

Thank you dude!
