Ranked from 56 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

In what way does your game fit the theme?
We chose to address the theme in an indirect way. 'Outage' is designed to cater towards a two player experience, and this is the main reason why the levels are as challenging as they are. You are going to be more capable at completing the game if you work with another person to beat the puzzles, and that is how we chose to approach the theme when designing the game's mechanics.

We respect, however, that most people will be playing the game solo, and so that is, of course, also a possibility :)

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
All code, art and music assets were made by the development team specifically for the jam (Thomas McCarthy, Patrick McCarthy & Joseph Mahon). Sound effects are from freesound.org and zapsplat.com

NOTE FOR PLAYERS: We’ve implemented a save system into the game, so don’t worry about losing your progress if you want to go away and come back to it later :D

Really glad I found this submission. I love puzzle games like this and you guys did a great job of building an interesting environment on top of otherwise (visually) basic mechanics. The scene really reminded me of a couple locations in The Witness and was really pleasing to have in the background while I worked on puzzles. I got as far as level 9 before calling it quits, because they’re pretty tough, but I fully intend to come back and try to beat this. Great job guys!

Here’s my game if you’d like to give it a play.

Super interesting game design, I like the fact that I can think about two solutions at the same time. The graphics are super cool and the controls super fluid. I had a lot of fun.

Good job.

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

Nice atmosphere. The theme and graphics were tied together well. The puzzles were a little hard for me, but I think the difficulty is good for most people though. I liked it.

Please consider rating my game :D https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-5/rate/919993

Great design, atmosphere and sound. Smooth transitions, well made UI and challenging puzzles. Glad I finished it without the solution sheet haha.

20 levels and with an increasing difficulty, that is impressive for one week!

I had one visual bug where the green square just moved to its last position without following the full path (going in diagonal). I don't remember on witch level and it did not happen after so that's ok.

Last thing is I feel the number here is making the game more difficult. So I guess you can twist the game theme in a lot of way but imo it does not fit totally.

Well done anyway :)

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

Yes, we are aware that sometimes that can happen! Luckily it doesn't affect where the green box goes to - it will still end up in the right place :)

Amazing job, very challenging puzzles.  Everything was good top to bottom, art, music, design, and I didn't encounter a single bug.

wow this is really fun! something i LOVE is the fact that it actually saves my progress if i leave and that is crazy to me! it makes me stress a lot less on finishing it in one sitting so way to go! really enjoyed the game and i really like the graphics of the background behind the actual game.

Hey actually an amazing game, gave it nearly perfect scores on the rating, I'm also a sucker for a good sliding puzzle game and the idea of having multiple blocks sliding and having to use themselves is great

Hey there,

This is very well done, smooth transition, a really good music, simple design to focus on the puzzle. I could say any more but congratulations on your submission!!!

Cheers!!!

Man, those level transitions are on point!

The game was pretty difficult, although I was playing by myself. I only made it to lvl 11, but had to stop as I felt I would sink way to much time into it! Usually I give constructive criticism, but I honestly cant find any.

Very solid submission! :D

Overall the game seemed very polished and the graphics had a cool and dark art style. the puzzles were surprisingly  difficult but not too bad. I was playing it by myself though so that may be why lol.

great job :D

Really well polished game. The puzzles are well designed. The audio fits perfectly. This is one that I'll probably return to and try to finish. For future revs of this, maybe there could be a move counter, it felt like on a couple levels I was able to brute force my way through by making many unnecessary moves. Great work!

Developer

Thanks! That's a good idea :D

I really liked the game, more the green cube moving depending on my movements, the only criticism for some reason it would not let me continue playing when going from lvl 1 so I asked a friend to show  me the game, he reached level 10.

This is our game in case you want to play it, feedback is very welcome!

Hi Agolda! Thanks for playing the game - I'm glad you enjoyed it! When you say it wouldn't let you continue, do you mean the 'continue' button being disabled when you go back to the main menu (if yes, then that's intentional, as it's to let the music fade in, and it will become interactable again after a few seconds!). If not, I'd recommend restarting the game to fix the issue. Congratulate your friend for me! :D

Great game!, it was really fun I love this kind of puzzle games.

It's similar to my game in a way, would love if you could try out my game too!

Wow! This game looks amazing! The transitions, the music, the menus! All good! I feel discouraged now xD. One thing tho is... It´s too hard. idk if it´s because it´s not my type of game (is probably that) but I got stuck in level 3 and that´s no good for a game jam game :/ It doesn´t fit too well with the theme either imo, especially if you are playing alone.

Developer

Hi! Thanks for playing! Yes, the game is intentionally meant to be difficult, but, since we recognised that lots of people may stop playing after hitting the first difficult level (as is such the case with game jams!), we created a solution guide that I've linked to here! You can also find it on Outage's itch.io page :)
