How does you game fit the theme?
This game is in a kind of cave. There is a ghostlike creature helps us to get out. So, you are not alone.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes. All art& code and nonexistent audio is mine.

(I am now in a rush to test as many games as possible to help, so please do not mind the cursory reviewing style.)

Semi-on-the-fly remarks:

title reminds me of "Alone in the Dark" ;) (which is the true originator of "Resident Evil", by the way!)

Controls are QWERTY-only instead of layout-independent (I have an AZERTY keyboard), BUT arrow keys are enabled. Nevertheless, only W for jumping, not the Up key! ._.

Very first room reminds of the beginning of "Prince of Persia"!

The animation for the hero is super impressive. Great work.

Great dynamic light effect (with collision/solid detection).

Since the mouse is also useful, having to jump with my AZERTY’s W is not practical… :o

Spoiler: Nice details, such as the horizontal skeleton at the bottom left. Almost missed him. (I was wondering if it was useful since I am stuck, and seeing your answer to Louis Vogel, yes, it is. XD)

I am stuck! I do not get it: I found the chest and torso, but nothing else seems to interact with me; I tried both the left mouse button and Q, but nothing happens… ._. Oh, super weird: toggling back to the game window, this activates the skeleton head I was at!!! :O I wonder if this is a key/mouse-related issue… Found the (rightward) third; seeing how the first and third one activated on contact, I wonder why the second one caused me such trouble. ._.

Oh, already the end…

Takeaway: sounds super interesting as the beginning of a puzzle-platforming game; the context, skeleton, and genre all remind me somewhat of "Prince of Persia". The flashlight could be the occasion for some mechanics based on light, and I wish you could have demonstrated other things with the skeleton mechanic. Finding the three skeleton parts was already a bit challenging, as navigating around the level required thinking a bit, so I am sure you could come up with nice level design for the sequel! I see this as an early prototype, with already fine animation, dynamic lighting effect, and screen curvature. The link to the theme is fair but classic (having a companion you can summon). As for originality, it is a bit hard to tell so early, but I think the full game would be at least fairly interesting. Sad about the audio, but hey, the Grim Deadline of Death probably stopped by! ;)

Still had a good time with the game, I could feel some humour through the talking character (is it a genie, by the way?? If it is, again a fairytale figure connected to the lands of "Prince of Persia" ;)). Well done, and glad you intend completing the game! :)

I enjoy the effort on the dialog; and on the animation and flashlight :-)

However, I was stuck and could not find the 3rd skeleton :( That's to bas, because even if the game lacked audio, it had charm :)

Developer

Ah that 3rd skeleton. I know, I hid it to somewhere very hard to find. Let me give a tip to you and anyone who didnt go through my game yet, the hardest skeleton is hid under a ledge on bottom left corner of the map.

Impressive! Having made my very first game in 2D I know how difficult it can be to make animations like you did! And in one week... congratulations!

Developer

Using IK Manager, 2D animations were easily done for me. But flashlight controls were a big trouble.  Thanks for the feedback tho!

We liked it a lot. We can see that you put effort on the characters and look of the level. Fun game for the limited time of a GameJam!

Thanks a lot for making my day better!! :)

Could probably benefit from faint background light, since it's kinda hard to navigate in the complete dark besides where the flashlight shines. The animations are good though!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback!

There are a lot of bugs in the game but it could be really good after you patch them all, great work!

I don't get what i am supposed to do, also would have been nice with some audio in the game

Developer (1 edit)

Yes, it seems I couldnt make the progress understandable due to less time. I thought player can explore the level with helps of ghostlike creature, and reach to end. (note: I suggest taking a look to description of games page.)
