Good looking game. I find the dialogue sound a little bit boring tho, but maybe it's just not my taste. I liked the narrator text and i found it kinda funny. Good job and when you have time, consider playing mine as well.

Submitted

I can't get even past the first level, but I really like the ambience on this.

Maybe im dumb but how do i get past the tutorial? Space doesnt work for dash and I tried to reach the doorway but only way to even start your way there is with innaurate spike collisions that make you jump super high.

Developer

The game is built on a grid with the tiles.. collisions for non square objects are a bit clunky as it's hard to control the generated hitbox's shape. If you know how to fix that or do something to make them more under my control that would be greatly appreciated.

As with the tutorial. What part of the story have you gotten up to? Have you been given the key yet?

Submitted

No ive only gotten up to the part where he says to use space for dash and that wont work.

Developer

so holding down space doesn't increase your speed?

Submitted

Hmm, holding it for speed. I thought it was a single dash kind of thing. Ill try it again I think I only tapped spacebar.

Game Desing 5/5. This is good  game. I love it!

Developer

thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed. I've got a main project coming out sometime around Christmas that you might also enjoy. it has different mechanics with a branching storyline, keep an eye out for that when it comes out, I try make everything I do to a high quality.

Submitted

Amazing! Surprised this game has only got 12 ratings.

The art is really good and I like the story.

Maybe try to make a WebGL build next time so more people will play!

Developer (1 edit)

either that or I need to work on the presentation when sharing it... cause at the moment I'm only sharing links and I didn't have time during the jam to make that much good artwork outside the tiles for the game

But a web glad version is is a Good idea.. once the jam is finished I could polish the game together adding in the couple features I had to leave out, then making that a web build.

According to the analytics page a this point in time I have 12 views 14 ratings  and 18 downloads ... not sure how you can rate something you haven't viewed, but sure whatever.

being my first jam I didn't have any followers before the 1 I have now, so just me publishing the game doesn't get it to that many people, I try to keep a similar level of quality in my work.

I've got a big release that should be out by Christmas, different mechanics and a branching storyline. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you all, so keep an eye out for it

Did I just get kidnapped by this game?  Great Job!

Developer

yep basically... glad you liked it, if your looking for other games with a similar level of polish keep an eye out for my main project that I'm hoping to release by Christmas. Will have different mechanics and a branching story

Submitted

This is genius game design, subverting expectations, i loved it. You also put a lot of effort into the graphics and audio which really created such a rich atmosphere.

Developer

yea. I really believe that a game can benefit from being as polished as it can be. And the simpler/shorter the game, the more time you can spend polishing it and adding little details to make it feel like it's own world

Submitted

I loved the slow scrolling background and how the blue cube interacted with the little floating white cubes.  Also, I liked how the spikes didn't kill the player but bounced them around.  I couldn't get past the first high jump though lol... I'll try again later. Good job!  Please try my game when you can, good day~

Developer

try hold down the jump button... it will give a bit more air time

Submitted

Great game with a great idea

It will be nice of you to check out my game

Developer (1 edit)

thanks. had a look at your game. no offence or anything but its like "the room" of video games. love it. had me hooked till the end

Submitted

Great art and sounds! The gameplay was good as well but I found whilst in the air and holding space I could only move right and not left which made it  a lot harder

Developer (1 edit)

... ill have a look into it and get back to you. from what ive playtested i cant see that issue. if its not too much to ask could you somehow record it so i understand the bug propperly.  not sure if its just a one off or an actual bug.

Submitted

It happens when you are pressing space and up at the same time and then try to move left. There is nothing really to show other than that it doesn't move. I tried the game again, this time letting go of the up button once I jumped and it was a great game!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you could figure something out... What sort of keyboard are you playing on? And do you usually have problems in games that require holding down 3 buttons. Cause I believe some keyboards limit the amount of buttons it can return at a time. It could be a hardware issue more than anything. Which would be why I never came across it.

Submitted

Yeah its just a normal laptop keyboard so you're probably right :)

Developer(+1)

I'm glad we figured it out.

really fun to play, great idea. Hard to believe it's your first game :)

Your first game ? Wow dude I think you have a big experience behind this masterpiece !

The game design is beutifull as the graphismes, i'm really impressed :D

So I've finish the game, but I'm disappointed there's no "end" . The mechanics with the text is ingenious, it held me to the end.

Developer (1 edit)

thanks, I guess i have as much experiance as an 18yr old can have. ive made games on scratch before,  I'll link in some of the better ones below ... some of them a pretty good mechanics and visuals wise.

also ive got an on going bigger project that im hoping to publish on steam, which the scale seems to keep getting bigger as i keep having more ideas so look out for that.

just an inquiry, did you get to the bit where it said the end? cause i have a feeling a lot of people might not understand that the text can hurt the narrator, i mean theres no health bar to indicate a "boss battle". also sorry that the endings a bit abrupt, i was up till like 3am new zealand time or something; about 4 hours away from the end of the jam, finally got to where the whole game was playable to the end and desided to call it a night.

if i had a bit more time one feature that i wanted to add was a fake level select. like locked levels that you cant access. and just taunt the player with like 20 or so levels and then never let them finish the tutorial.

I really love to learn the other's experiences or how they turned into game developer, because you know, that's not easy to meet in real life another game dev by luck x)

And like you, I'm 18 and I've got a big project hopping for steam ! I'm felling a bit less alone in that quest

And yep like I've said, I've finished your game until the end menu. And that's exaclty what I've felt when I saw the end. "Wow that game is not finished". The mechanics were really cool, like the boucing of the cube, and also the game design was well designed. Colors, placement, that's a good job. But the end for me is the more important ! All of the work you have made, take the player until the end with this hope "Surprise me !", but when we arrive at the end, THIS IS the end x)

And that's a bit sad for me. I hope you don't give up your game, and continue to polish it, adding a REAL end and orther mechanics with your fucking skills ^^

So sorry for my really REALLY good english (as a french , google trad is my dad)
Then I'm gonna try some your games !

Developer (1 edit)

do you have a game for the jam?  i can't see one linked. your cookie factory game looks cool though, big fan of the visuals and art, gameplays a bit on the basic side, and im not sure the is visual and audio feedback when you get things wrong. but if there is a free way to collab on another game jam im down, us 18yr olds need to stick together, and perhaps with another person we will be able to make something great.

Submitted

Cookie Factory was for the jam ^^

And yep the gameplay is really basic but I'm really prond of the graphismes and the sound design. Because I'm not quiet good at this, but this time I think they are good. I not sure to understand what you've said with feedbacks.

Why not ? I've made a lot of collabs, and ALL of them have collapsed because the projects was mainly to embitious, and the peoples not enough motivated. I think you know it. But for a jam, why not. I have time, you have time, and like you said, if another one join us to make little games in jams, that can be great, that can be cool. But for me, only on jams x)

Developer

feedback is like the thing that happens after you do something. for instance in shooters like battle field, when you get hit you guy will cry out and the screen will go red. that sort of thing.  something that seperates doing something good and making a mistake

and yea. im not on this all to offen. ill have to find a way to get notified, but if you have an idea for a jam i think it might be nice to actually collab with someone for once.

Submitted

Did you have discord ? Of course. Every devs have discord ^^

Listen, this month I will work really hard on my game, but I take a break every 6 weeks. Then we can find a jam during this time ! And yep, for all the collabs I've made, that's the first time wich someone really competent. But we need to talk to it seriously. Answering questions like on wich label we can publish it ? We need a team name ?

What  do you think of it ?

And also, I need to perform my english.

Developer

discord name is  jacobsmith3204#1841 and email is jacob.smith49358@gmail.com.

yea i think i could do another jam in 6 weeks. should be a game dev full time by then. so message me about whatever jam you're interested in around then.

keep practicing english, and i hope to hear from you in 6 weeks. perhaps my main project will be demo able by then. could use some play testers

Thanks, mine is Deceleris#2307 and email is deceleris.game@gmail.com

I want something more dynamic this time. In mid pass between bullet hell and exploration game. If a jam offer this possibility to make a game like this, I will notify you !
