FINAL UPDATED VERSION IS OUT!

  • I took comment suggestions and improved the game!
    • When fighting the bosses there is a 2 second immunity frame after being hit.
    • The chasing enemies now get stunned on hit.
    • Added a pause menu with a quit button.
    • The returning magic hammer now does damage too.
    • Pushing blocks are now marked with arrows.
    • Melee animation is faster and collider is improved.
    • The parallax backgrounds move better.  (0 movement on y axis.)

Thanks to everyone who played and gave feedback!  It improved the player experience a lot.  I will take all I have learned and make an epic platformer in a 30day Halloween jam.

Very nice game ! The combat system is a bit strange but otherwise it's great !

Also, I would have liked the hammer to deal damages when it gets back to the player, like in the last God of War for exemple, because it feels weird to see it go through enemies without doing anything.

I loved the ending, the reaction of the hero is very fun x)

Nice work !

Developer

Hi thanks for playing! I updated the game with your suggestions~

I loved the art! The combat felt a bit weird but still alright. And checkpoints would be nice. Other than that, great entry!

Developer

Thanks for playing!  Yeah right now the fighting is poke and run haha.  I'm studying how to do knock back, and I'll make a better game for a Halloween jam.

Excellent work. I really enjoyed the progression of finding new items to progress through the story. Pretty good visuals, too!

Developer

Thanks for playing!  I will practice this again in a Halloween jam, want to learn to make a dash item too~

Submitted(+1)

amazing i really loved it. i think it needs a couple more check point and maybe a different attack sound but those are just details. Good job

Developer

Thanks!  Check points are on my study list~

Submitted(+1)

Good job. I think you looked tutorials from Blackthornprod :D (Me also)

It  would be great if you can make a pause menu(Watch a tutorial from Brackeys)

I really like the combat-system.

Developer

Oh yeah I learn everything from him haha.  I will put in a pause menu for sure~  Thanks for playing!

Rated! I loved the idea of this game, and it fit very well with the theme! I didn't end up getting to the end but I might replay it some time to hopefully end up saving the little girl!

The parallax is quite sickening because it always centered around the player; when you jump, it doesn't feel nice because the trees etc. follow you. They should be stationary!

The music is so cute, and very relaxing.

Great job on this, looks really well-made and polished; would like to see this become a fully fledged game, honestly! Especially if you can do this much in 1 week!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!  Yeah I'm trying to figure out how to make the parallax not move vertically.  Right now it's a child of the camera.  It's on my study list for sure~

Try making their transform.position.y into 0 so it always stays at 0 rather than setting it to transform.position.y (itself).

Best of luck! :D

Developer(+1)

Oh i'll try that, thanks a lot!

Submitted(+1)

No worries mate! :D

Developer(+1)

Hey~ it worked!  I just have to make the background images bigger too.  This will help my next game a lot thanks!!

Submitted(+1)

Woop woop! I'm glad I could help you out :D

Developer

i updated the game with your suggestions, thanks again!

This is an pretty neat addition to the game jam. I especially love the the trail effect that you used on the helmet and hammer! Also the multi-layered background was a neat touch too. Great job on the excellent game :D.

Developer

Thanks for checking it out :)

No problem great job!

Hi, so i played the game and now im gonna comment about it. Lets start of by saying that i had to redo my review since i played the wrong game? What was even the point of adding that community game jam.exe in there, it was just a worse, unfinished version of the game lmao. Anyway.. The game has good graphics and art and the music is also fitting and chill. Now, im gonna move onto what i didn't like about the game. The enemies are pretty week and easy to kill they just always take one heart and then die almost instantly. Tbh i'm surprised you made this in a week so good job, and the execution of the theme is good. Well, cay im out!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!  I built the final version in a old version's folder by mistake, so that's why there are 2 :/ Can't change it till the jam ends.  I will try and make a better melee system in my next Halloween jam.

Nice game :) Some knockback would've made this game so much better than it is, it was fun I liked it :D

Developer

Thanks!  I am studying knockback, I will try and do it in my next jam this Halloween.

Good thing that you have a video playthrough because ending glitched in my case and there was no sounds so I didn't understand it.

Anyway, the game is really awesome! It has nice graphics, good controlls and clever gameplay mechanics. But damn it is hard at times :P. Very impressive work!

Please give my game a try and rate it if possible ;)

Thanks for playing!

Nice game. It's just a little annoying that the enemies can hurt you multiple times at once.

Developer

Thanks for checking it out!  Yeah in the current build I'm working on  I put a 2 second immunity frame that works with most the enemies~

Submitted(+1)

Hello! :D Great interpretation of the theme and execution on all the gameplay elements. So impressed by what you were able to accomplish in a week! Amazing job! :D

Developer

Thanks!  I hope to make my next jam game even better.  I joined the 30day Halloween one.

I really loved the music and the atmosphere in the Game.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it!

Really good game, really good theme and cool ambientation, the only thing I think it needs is some invencibility frames, the skulls hit me like 3 times in a row and the spikes the same

Developer

Thanks for playing!  In the current build I'm working on I added 2 second immune frames~

Submitted(+1)

The game is really good, congratulations. Just think that you could make some invincibility frames when the player get hit :DD

Developer

Thanks for playing!  In the current build I added 2 sec immunity frames to the bosses.  Having trouble making it work for enemies haha.

In my opinion one of the best games i've played in the jam: full-featured and nice use of layer masks which fits the theme nicely... I wished the sword at the beginning had a bit more range to make combat less tedious in the beginning but it also gave me a huge satisfaction when i got the hammer!

very well done! keep it up!

Developer

Thanks for playing!  Maybe I can increase the sword length~ I'm trying to learn how to add some knock back too.

Submitted(+1)

I'm stuck right in the beginning.  I'm also on a laptop right now (no real mouse - just click pad) so that might be the reason.  I can move, jump, and swing the sword but that's it.  How do I get past or use the eye block and weapon block?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

First you go to the left by pushing blocks~  Then you get a new item to go right*.  Because of all of the environment particles, my game lags on slower computers too.  Thanks for trying~

Submitted(+1)

The melee attack control could use some work, I find it quite hard to gauge how far my attack is. Perhaps adding some particle effect for the attack would help a ton. In later stage, the game basically turns into a twinstick platformer???? I find it amusing and super creative that you basically introduce me to a new genre! Overall, I find it enjoyable!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!  It was my first time trying to do a melee attack~  In my next Halloween jam I will try and improve it with everyone's suggestions!  I like the hammer controls with platforming too :D
