Fun game to play and is a great way of sending the message of how biodiversity and the reintroduction of animals can help with combating climate change.

I wanted to keep playing to see the beaver's dam get built, although I found I had to restart the game a few times as the beaver kept getting stuck in the environment and fell through the map at one point and foxes were also getting stuck in trees.

Overall I enjoyed playing the game and it is a unique and fun spin on Tetris.

Great work :)

Developer

Oh yeah, we actually planned the pause menu to be able to restart the game, but we run out of time. Sorry! πŸ˜₯

It is interesting that the beaver fell through the map, it actually never happened in any of the playtests. πŸ€” Well I guess there's only so much of the bugs we could pinpoint in the timeframe. πŸ˜„

The foxes were supposed to bypass the trees, but couldn't get them to do that so I just added a wee code to push them slowly to x/z positive direction when they touch the tree, maybe it was just happening too slowly πŸ˜› Sorry!

Thank you for the feedback and playing our game! ❀️

I was in the second i saw that beaver's face, a cool twist on a classic game, the controls confused me a bit at first but shortly after i swiftly picked them up. Challenging enough and then you throw foxes in the mix! Amazing execution good work :)

Hey there, thanks for the feedback! <3

Yeah, we realise that controls are the confusing part of our game, but with the limited amount of time, we couldn't think of any other way than to introduce another button to enter the log mode. πŸ˜₯In fact we tried different versions of interacting with the logs, but then we would miss other features like rotating the block, and the log mode toggle felt most understandable for us - even though it still could use some adjustments 😊

Thanks for taking time to play the game! <3

Loved this game! It is such a unique idea and take on biodiversity and re-introduction of animals to help tackle climate change. Great idea. The game itself was fun to play and interesting and I loved the art style and beaver and fox characters (thought the frog/toad character I found unnerving and unsettling haha). The unique twist on Tetris was very cool too, in that you must physically interact with the blocks themselves to build the dam.

Some improvements that could be made are:

  • Refined controls. The controls were a bit difficult for me personally. I think it would be better to have one interaction key that was context sensitive, therefore Space key could be used to chop down trees and to enter/leave rotate mode for blocks – but these actions only happen if in proximity to the object to interact with. Alternatively, maybe just changing from using Shift to the Enter key might have been easier to remember and use physically.
  • Making the tetrominoes β€œfall” faster I think would add some more jeopardy
  • More foxes to get in your way would be make it more challenging also Cool concept and overall great game well done :)

Hey there, thanks for the feedback! πŸ₯°

With the controls, we planned to keep it to one interact button but then this was too hard to get around moving the logs, especially with the rotating part. We found it to be a bit less intuitive when a player could just step on the blocks to make them move, cause sometimes a player would want to leave the log field while it moved the block with the player as well so that's why we made a separate button for the log mode. 😊

In terms of logs falling down, we actually planned to have it slightly faster and also have the player build more dams to finish the game, but in the end game we cut it down due to how hard it was to achieve the game win condition, especially with all the foxes coming around and complexity of the log levels the player may get and get stuck in. πŸ˜„

And same with foxes - we initially had them spawn more often, it is just at the late playtest stage we thought it may be too hard, considering it was hard for us - people working on the game - so we just nerfed this amount in the very last-second build just so people would be actually able to finish the game. 😊 We wanted to keep it simple so it is appealing to everyone, although we may have gone too easy with it! πŸ˜…

Thank you for taking the time to play the game! <3

lovely feel to the game, easy to understand and appealing to the nature lobby

Developer

Hey there!
Thank you for your feedback! We really wanted to get the map appealing in terms of nature, which is the aim of whole COP26, so that's great to hear ❀️

I absolutely love the aesthetic of this game and it's great to see it so far completed too! It's a great spin on tetris since it had me running all over the place trying to get the un-chopped trees. I also really liked that the logs actually got cut when I got a Tetris. The model of the Beaver and Fox are also phenomenal and fit the game great!

I had no idea that we used to have beavers in this country too and that we're re-adding them, so I learnt something too!

To produce a game this well as a team of 5 is incredibly impressive in 72 hours, good job!

Thank you for your kind words <3
Yeah, we actually had the idea of making the game about beavers as a joke but it turned out that there is a lot of stuff going on that beavers help us with climate change and environmental issues! :)

How can you improve on the industry defning game Tetris. Ofc by making it about a beaver needing wood for their dam

Developer

Hey there, thanks for your feedback! <3
Yeah we wanted to make somehow funny/cartoony game based on actual way nature works, and it just appeared that Beavers and Tetris work together πŸ˜„
