Notes taken from Jam Comments
1. Make certain rooms brighter. I didn't think it was THAT dark, but I'll see. There is a Flashlight in a supply closet in the T Hallway past the Sun Door in the Living Room, which helps a lot.
2. Bug on the wastebin, got ya.
3. Maybe a global, but limited save option could be a nice alternative to what I had before.
In the dining room after the first chase, there could be a stack of blank paper and a pencil. Collecting this will allow you to save anywhere you want, but your saves are limited.
It's like you're leaving notes for others who might be trapped and trying to escape.
You guys think this will make my Jam game better? Or is there anything else I missed?
Like a few others, I got hit by a lockup bug with the wastebasket since I interacted with it from below rather than the side. Kinda wish the game had a few autosave checkpoints since you can get insta-gameovered if you touch certain bad things, and having to start all over is kinda…annoying. That said, great atmosphere and use of lighting (even if a little dark in some spots)
I got stucked on that wastebin because I tried to act when I was under that. In the first map of the game. But I played it again and moved from a different place and it worked well.
You made a great job then. I explored the intire 2º map (after her room) and I started to be chased by I monster or something like that. It was really cool. Soon….. he killed me :(
Good mapping, graphics, sound, and a great environment, despite horror games are not of my style xD
So I played this game and here are a few thoughts, in no order
-Holy darkness! I get it is horror but more light than hand in front of face please. Even Resident Evil lets you see more than that. And do not overlook ambient light, the eyes do adjust and see really well in darkness and pick up any light around it well, a fact way too many horror games forget about.
-In fact it is so dark I didn't see the grate. I only found it by smashing keys. A little more light please. I get you may be going for realistic, but realism should not block fun. A few too many of your rooms are way too dark that its just not fun to explore them. I'd either make your light area bigger or make all maps in the game brighter.
-Nitpick: You say the lamp is the only source of light, then the character has a light aura. I'd make the lamp light radius light up the room and remove the light around the character. That should be doable in VS lighting script if that is what you are using.
-3rd degree burns? You'd be dead, not just with lower HP, especially with that all over your arm. I think you mean 2nd degree burns.
-Found out how to save. Would be a good idea to tell the player how to save somehow though, maybe a tutorial when in the room when you find a tape recorder?
Hopefully these suggestions help. I ultimately had to give up as it was just too dark for me to see what to do in the game. I do think there is potential though with it, the darkness though was too strong and took away the enjoyment for me in the end. Fix that up and I think you have a game that you could sell even.
I enjoyed the creepy atmosphere and lighting, but the lack of saving combined with how easy it is to die made for frustrating trial and error trying to progress. I think this has potential if you give more direction to players, like making it more obvious what can/can't be interacted with, or having more rooms open from the start.
Scariest game I've played in a while! There's a softlock when you try to move the wastebin while you're south/under it is the only bug I found, but that can be fixed with a conditional branch. You nailed the scary atmosphere with this game!
Wow, thank you. Honestly, this was my first attempt at making a horror game.
I've got a longer one in development, not related to condemned, but I hope it can live up.
