- Congratulations on your completed entry into the Fireside's first ever Game Jam!
- I don't know why, but I have this sneaking suspicion that you wanted to put a high score system in this game, but didn't...... Might have really spiced things up. ;) The concept is straight forward and I knew that I had to avoid the arrows. The two biggest issues with this game are: -Because it's not grid based, you can squeeze between arrows and just rest on the stone parts of the level. -There are so many arrows and you move so quickly that it's neigh on impossible to run along the trees and avoid being hit. If you just slowed down the arrows and locked the player to grid movement per button press, this game would be a much more enjoyable experience. 👍
- A strange thing to say at the beginning, but I loved the death screen. I found that this game had a very small screen, with lots of space outside of just nothing. This both highlighted the miniature size of the game but also made it a bit difficult to focus on the tiny sprite and tiny arrows. I did find the "hack" that most others did as well of standing at the corner of a block and allowing arrows to go over my hat. A bit more play testing could have picked up on this. It was certainly a unique story with a good twist on the theme. Rejuvenation as a disadvantage of getting too young. High points in that category. I found that the tree regrowth timer was much too long. The music/audio, controls, and menus all functioned appropriately and were nice for the game style. Overall it could be a fun little game with minor improvements. I could even see this going on a mobile platform to be sold.
Did you work alone, or as part of a group? (If in a group, list their names)
It was a group but I ended up making it alone

Went to the comment section and found out I wasn't the only one who discovered the corner exploit! Your game needs to incentivize the player to keep moving around somehow, so that you force them to interact with this neat mechanic you came up with. The art needs more practice, but it's a good start, and I'd prefer if it wasn't that zoomed out. Overall though, it's a cool game that has potential. Congrats!
Fun little game with a clever use of the theme! There are just a couple things that hold it back. Like Golden Wreathe, I also found the exploit where standing in the top right corner of the starting space makes you un-hittable so you can just stand there and rack up score. I think this could be fixed in a couple ways; either give the player movement that's restricted to the same grid as the space, so you instead hop around and can't hide between arrow guns, or add something like powerups or collectibles to incentivize the player to run around the board. instead of staying in a relatively safe place. Overall, this is a great first pass and I can see this being expanded into a really cool game. Congrats!
Thanks! Glad you liked the game! :D
Cool game! I think the theme and story for this was pretty dang cool. Mechanics wise there's not too much here...dodge the arrows. And you can just stand on the platform and get through the level forever. Sometimes you have to protect the gamer from themselves :) we will always the easiest route possible because we want the highest score, but it's not always the most fun route possible. I think the music and sound effects were great. Overall I really enjoyed your game!
Fun little game, I would have liked to see the plants regrow after a time too, also as mentioned by others the platforms break the game a little maybe they can sense when you are on them for too long and crumble away?
pretty fun on theme.
I tried to make the trees grow back. (Which they do) But because the game kept crashing it came down to a very limited amount. Also the timer in the top right. Is a timer for when some of the trees will grow back.
i like the sounds in the game they are a bit high but still good,
but i didn't understand what am i suppose to do in the game ? make all the platforms fall ? or dodge the arrows for the longest time ? i noticed there is 2 timers i don't know why they are 2 timers not 1 and one of them is faster than other, some instructions somewhere will make this game much better :3
I didn't have time to put it in the game but the instructions are in the description of the game. Also the goal is to survive the longest.
a very silly (in a good way) interpretation of the theme, I love it. As for the game, it's simple but fun. Though it is possible to stand on the corner of one of the stone platforms and just go on forever (I'm still wracking up a score while tabbed away from the game to write this comment!).
What a cool an interesting story/concept for the game! I found the art a dopey and charming, I think it would have lost it's appeal if it was too slick. Though if you stand right on the top right edge of the middle platform the arrows can't hurt you at all, and you win forever. Maybe an added element of wind knocking you off the concrete pillars if you stand on them too long. I really like the shrinking of the trees and running around dodging the arrows. I would have liked a little visual warning to show which hole in the wall they would shoot out from too.
Also maybe some kind of coin or collectible to pickup on top of the trees to keep the player moving and gaining points as well as trying to stay alive for time.
This was fun, with some additions it could be really great!
