Great game, looks good, good ideas in it. A few things I feel would make it easier to navigate would be the end level portal always being visible, but not accessible until you have the key (so you can remember where it is later instead of having to double navigate the maze). Also killing the enemies wasn't fun, you just keep spamming the keyboard and you're invulnerable, plus they take a lot of hits to kill, so you're just sitting on them for a few seconds spamming space. One hit kill (for the enemies) would probably work best, and a life point system instead of an HP bar (for the player).

Thanks for the review. Yeah! I think there's a lot of polishing to be done.

The end portal is supposed to be invisible and the player needs to navigate the maze to find it. Perhaps an easy mode would have the portal always visible. Killing the enemies requires 3 hits. However, you can also hit the bullets. Hence you are often hitting bullets instead of the enemy. I could have made a system for the enemy stop firing for a few seconds after being hit, so as to help with killing it. What I don't understand is the life point system. How would that work?

You know, just a few hearts and each time you get hit you lose one. Or lose a powerup ala mario. The life bar system you're using is kind of boring, IMO.

got it! Thanks! I will do that next time. It does seem like a much better way to make it! That's the real purpose of these jams ;) Learn and improve!

Great job! The art and sounds were spot on. It was really liking take a trip back to the SEGA goldenage. A few suggestions would be to make the music loop, it would run out if I couldn't find the key and exit in time. Every once in a while, when I killed an enemy, he would stay on the screen but I couldn't do anything with him - hit him, he wouldn't shoot me, and etcetera. All-in-all this was done excellently. I was especially fond of the background, tilesets, and bubbles!

cheers! I fixed some of the bugs is the post jam version but was unable to fully test the game before the deadline.
