You can also use directional or mouse inputs alongside your one button.
One button doesn't mean one action, you could hold a button and let go to charge and release an attack, double tap to double jump or stack inputs such as holding break until the car stops and continue to hold to reverse.
These are just a few ideas of what you can do with a one-button game, but you can be surprisingly creative even with this limitation.
Remember, you have until Friday the 7th of October to submit your game and you are only in pairs (and some threes), so keep your concept focused and simple.
