Game description
Afterwords takes you on a journey through the fading memories of your past. This puzzle-driven, story-focused game allows you to explore different phases of your life within the same family home.
As you solve puzzles, you'll uncover your name along the way. Each level represents a unique memory, with the environment changing to reflect the time period you are reliving. To progress, you'll listen to conversations, find hidden words, and combine them into passwords to unlock the next memory.
The clock is ticking—memories are fading...
Theme interpretation
The theme of secrets is central to *Afterwords*, affecting both gameplay and narrative. As players explore memories, they uncover clues that reveal the protagonist’s identity and untold stories from their past. The linear structure, combined with randomized hints and the need to piece together information from conversations and the environment, reflects the gradual uncovering of secrets. The fading memories and time pressure highlight that secrets can be lost if not revealed in time. Ultimately, this theme drives the quest for answers, adding intrigue and emotional depth to the journey.

Hope you get to complete the puzzle! The hinting and narrative side of things will be improved in future versions of the game too :)
Love everything about this game, even if I didn't finish it. The writing is full of color and life, the music is nostalgic, the art direction almost makes me able to smell fresh baked cookies in the home, and the minigame to get the words for your word bank is innovative and cute!
I think I missed something early on, or just had a hard time interpreting the clues to figure out the three word combo, so my only point of feedback is to maybe provide a little more of a hint, or maybe even provide a few less words for the word bank in the first area then start to expand this as the game progresses, similar to Curse of the Golden Idol. Take all that with a grain of salt though, because I may just be dense and totally missed something!
One major bug is that this combination did not unlock anything and I think it needs to be fixed or the internet will explode. Don't blame me, I'm just the messenger for the boss of the internet and that's what they told me.
Thank you so so much for your comment! Your feedback is very much appreciated. There's things from the narrative side that we're planning on improving, mostly to hint towards the actual pass, but also to polish the whole concept. The original idea was a bit too large in scale so we needed to adapt, and it ended up a bit obscure in this sense.
PS: Come back when the game is a bit more developed to learn the truth about ducks ;)
