Was a Local-Multiplayer game a bad choice?

Hey!

As the title suggests, I'm starting to think perhaps my choice of game wasn't great... I made a Local-Multiplayer game which needs a minimum of 2 players for it to work... So I'm worried that it will restrict people playing it :/ (You'll need at least one controller, i.e. one of you plays on keyboard and the other on the gamepad).

It actually supports up to 4 players though, if anyone has that many controllers and USB ports lol

If anyone wants to try, feel free! I think it's really fun and good game to have a laugh with friends.

Probably not the wisest of choices to make it a minimum of 2 players purely because that will prevent most from playing it! I'll check it out with my fiancee later today and let you know what I thought!

Agreed! For future jams I think I’ll stick to single player. I learnt a lot though so it wasn’t a complete waste of time lol

I appreciate you checking it out, thank you so much. I look forward to hearing your thoughts :)

I think it would be fine if it you could play the game solo. That being said, I haven't checked your game out yet, so I don't know if it is the type of game you where you could play solo. I would probably stick to single player or optional multiplayer for game jams.

It’s a competitive multiplayer game, so without another player to compete against it doesn’t really work.

In hindsight going for multiplayer wasn’t the best choice, so I’ll stick to single player from now on.

Thank you for responding though :)

Hey, don't stick to singleplayer 😔 it's good to have some multiplayer games, I would just make it playable against AI, even if it's basic AI so you can get a feel for the game, that way if the player enjoys it they can grab someone and come back for the proper experience!

Sorry I didn't get chance to play this last night. I will try and play today though!

You make a very good point! I actually was intending to put some sort of AI in case of playing single player, but alas I ran out of time. I would have at least just had them run away once you’re a ghost, but it was at the bottom of my priority list.

I wanted to put some power ups also, like going invisible for a second to throw off the ghost. I might add in these things once the jam is over.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to try :)

Making a multiplayer game for the jam is quite the challenge, since you'll probably want to ALSO have some sort of computer AI to play against in case there's no human player 2. So it's a lot more work than making a single player game with a simple enemy AI (if there's any enemies at all).
