I did not expect to enjoy a story-driven game made for a short jam - these are usually terribly boring. That one was quite cool! It really REALLY needs some music though. Felt a bit lifeless without it...

Great work, amazing game - looks like a lot of work went into it :)

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I put a lot of effort into it. :)

In prior projects, I usually used royalty-free music composed by others. Here, since the rules require all assets be made during the jam, I thought I would put something together myself, but it isn't really my forte. I was able to create something for the main menu, but all the pieces I tried to put together for the main game ended up being too distracting for such a text-heavy experience. I will keep picking at it and hopefully will be able to upload a new version with some gameplay music after the jam.

Yeah I understand. Music was the hardest part for me as well. What I did is I picked a random nursery rhyme as a base for the melody (twinkle twinkle little star...) and then tried moving notes around and playing with it a bit. It's much easier if you have a starting point!

Developer

That's... kind of brilliant. I'll try to do something like that next time. :)

It is well made and has good art, but the text and dialogue is long, and I lost interest.

Thanks for checking it out!

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but that's where my inspiration led me this time.

I played it around for a bit and talked to some people. Seems pretty good, especially for a jam, but I wish it had a bit more direction on what to do and where to go.

I really like all the graphics, and the sounds matched them perfectly! I think this is a pretty cool entry :)

Developer

Thank you for checking it out, and thanks for your kind words!

Earlier in development, I locked the environment down more. Later, I opened it up a bit, giving the player a chance to explore more freely.

It's definitely better having it more open, but I'm still tired from the jam and could've used some more direction for my fried brain to process what I was supposed to be doing :D

Ooof. Right in the feels. Glad I played this. Well, maybe not "glad". Dagger what have you done?

Superb writing; this game has a contained story with hints of a bigger world.

Great jam game!

Thanks so much for trying it out! Happy you enjoyed. :)

If you like the lore of this feudal sci-fi universe, I've made a few other games in the same setting:

https://fallingwallgames.itch.io/the-derelict-orpheus-post-jam-edition (very short)

https://fallingwallgames.itch.io/the-gnawing-hunger (about an hour and a half)

The story seems interesting and the graphics are nice, but it was a lot more reading than I was expecting. Based on the screenshots, seems like there was a lot more to the game.  I think a smaller first map and a bit more focused dialogue would have kept me invested.  Overall, great work and intriguing world building for a gb jam game!

Developer

Thanks so much for checking it out! It is a bit of a novel, I agree. :) That's where my inspiration took me. :)
