Question about the term “scene”

Hi!

So I had just a question about the term “scene”. Does this mean that we van make “anything” as a gameboy scene?

What I mean is, can it be a snapshot of “gameplay” or is it expected to be something more in line of a “cutscene”? Just asking so I know what I can focus on during the jam 😊

Scene is simply the term used in GB Studio for a background image at 160px by 144px. So long as you make a pixel image within that size and technical requirement of 192 unique 8by8px tiles, you can make any art you want. (See the 2023 pixel art jam to see examples).

Great, thanks for the reply!

So, not animated image, a still image? thank you!

A still 160 x 144px  image - could be a work of art, an example screenshot of a game, a cut scene, pure black image, a star field, checker-board, the Mona-lisa, Sonic beating up Mario, an example game HUD, etc.
Anything that fits the theme(s), and is 160 x 144, and no more than 192 unique 8x8px tiles (counting tiles).
