Ranking recalculated (update: Overall added) Sticky

Hey all,

I know everyone is busy pondering over the final results that were published a few hours ago, but we had someone come forward about abusing voting system. I confirmed in the database and I feel the correct thing to do is to remove their fraudulent ratings and recalculate the results.

This person didn't boost their own page, but used multiple fake accounts to give a large number of 1 ratings to other projects.

As of when this topic was created the ratings have been recalculated.

711 ratings have been disabled due to fraudulent activity.

If there is a need to recalculate the rankings again I'll update here with another post.

Thanks

The ranking has been recalculated again. I spoke with Mark and he agreed to introduce "Overall" as an average of all criteria. Rankings have been recalculated as of this post.

Oh, i thought it was a conspiracy, turned out it to be truth.
But i didnt expect until someone to make hundreds of fake accounts.

When I see some of the top games with only 10 ratings I can't but to think that this is a bit odd, because if you show your game to your friends they will judge very positively (and everyone can show his game to 10 friends) . On the other hand I saw some very good games with a bunch of ratings, but were a the end far from the first 100.

I know it's hard because if anyone can rate, stuff like this will happen. But in order to make it the best experience for the participants, I think that the rating system has to be rethought.

(We also got two ratings that are very low. I don't know if this was the same guy but when I see some other games I think that we didn't deserve it. But that's how this rating system is... )

Thought the same, maybe they can implement an algorithm like Wilson Score

But the honest people who didn't let their friends vote for them and don't have many votes got crushed. It's really not ideal.

What do you mean "a day"? Everyone has been able to vote since voting started.

Oh, that's even worse :D I thought the whole time only devs that submitted could vote

This is my second jam and in the first one only devs could vote, so I assumed this would be the case here too. My opinion still stands nonetheless. It would at least be handy to see two seperate scores for public voting and voting by other competitors.

Our ranking somehow went down after the recalculation. Oh well, I dont envy anyone's position in trying to manage people's expectations when it comes to these types of things.

Congrats to everyone who participated. This was out first GMTK and while not perfect, it's got some really good things going for it.

Everyone take away your lessons from this jam, and you can count on us competing with you all again next year. @bitdecaygames

This could maybe be rounded to a bit fewer digits, hehe
