This is interesting.  There is certainly something here.  The art is fantastic, but there is so little feedback that I was pretty lost on what to do.

Fun concept! Everything fit together nicely. It was really funny when I lost sight of it for a moment, went to town and found a dead body by it. I was laughing pretty hard just because I wasn't expecting it. I haven't seen to many other games like this in the Jam. Good luck on your future game dev!

Unique game. The art is cute. I don't like the aggressiveness of the first 2 buttons, yet at least the scold button seems too rewarding since you don't lose health but the days pass. Although I don't understand how the submission works. Travelling is a bit confusing, sometimes the bird seems to travel on its own? I apologize if something awesome happens after day 9 but the game didn't seem to change around the town so it felt like that was the game. Good job on the submission!

Did..didd popo just kill someone ....!!? Today I learned that peacocks are some evil creature.

The direction for the game was unique. Musics and aesthetic blended together well. However, as many had said, the game play was quite confusing, and slow at a time. Some instruction would has been nice to lead on the players. Overall, I like this unique take on the theme. Wish you would done some refinement on this for post jam. Great job though!

Developer

We're already working on some refinements and bug fixing. The tutorial was cut out at the end of the jam for an error (as you can see on the "This is a test script" on How To Play)

And yes, Poppos are murderous machines

Very nice game! I didn't really understand how to play the game... The art is awesome!

I'm not sure the 2D cutout art works with these realistic 3D backgrounds, but I gotta say both art styles look really good on their own! There's some really good texture and lighting work that went into this, I'm impressed. Sadly the gameplay isn't anything to write home about, but good submission anyway, nice work!

I know for a fact that peacocks are vicious bastards, so this is quite accurate. :D

This is a really fresh idea and very adherent to the theme. I liked both the art style and the relaxing background music. I wish there were more options for interaction. The game is a little repetitive right now.

The lack of the How to Play file was the biggest issue for me. I had to do a couple of fast playthroughs to understand the game, but I more or less got it down now, so I'll write it for everyone: the Poppo grows once it hits enough trees, so be careful to balance your visits to the woods with the other locations. If you just keep alternating between the Cave and the Town you do keep it alive, but it won't "gain exp" so to speak. Remember: your mission is to make it grow, not to simply keep it alive.

As for the technical side: I LOVE the art style and the character design, it has a really peculiar touch to it and is more than enough to compensate for the pre-made backgrounds in the game, kudos to the artist!
On the other hand the audio is... lacking. Then again, it's written on your website that this game was made by just two people, so it's more than understandable.

Overall, once you get the gist of it, the game is actually enjoyable and unique in its genre. The idea of growing an animal that gradually goes out of control is a nice interpretation of the theme and the art style is quite something too! I really liked it and I do hope that this idea will be expanded in the future.

The bird is adorable! The ui often seemed to break? Buttons just wouldn't work. I couldn't really tell what I was doing 90% of the time. It took me a while to realize that the bird was chopping down trees or something? Maybe I didn't get far enough, but I wasn't able to find how you fit the theme into the game? Unless it was the ui breaking.

Some audio cues would go a long ways to help make the game more clear. It'd also be neat if there was a way to positively reinforce the bird's habits, instead of hitting or scolding it.

Good job on the submission guys <3 Best of luck with future projects

I like the idea but was a bit too repetitive. Also, I hoped after one month my Popo would be big, but instead I lost apparently because I failed my mission.

Also, maybe a bit easy to stay alive by switching between cave and town to have lots of bonuses from people.

Laso, for the theme, I find there is not "so much" lost of control. I was imagining that maybe when the popo will grow, he starts attacking everybody, or destroy the town and else. And in the actual state, it's more like sometimes he doesn't agree or he moves to another place, so nothing really "big".

Even with all these comments, good job for this work !

Without the lore of whatever this game is based off of I found it pretty confusing. As far as I can tell you just sit in the woods chopping wood with occasional visits to the shop? Interesting game regardless.

Edit: I see your profile has the previous game Chaincards, that's cool.
