How does your game fit the theme?
The game is about attempting to control evolution, a chaotic and divergent system for which control should be difficult if not impossible. The hope is that players find themselves fighting for control with randomness and inherent chaos of a genetic algorithm.

cool concept but I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do.  out of control for sure!

I like the concept and it is pretty to look at with a very attractive UI, however I'm just not totally sure what I'm supposed to be trying to do. Somehow I passed the first level with no plants at all which was pretty neat. I feel like this has a lot of potential and I'd love to see where you can take this idea with more variables to control, maybe different types of plants too. I couldn't get past the second level so it's possible you've already done some of this that I just didn't see. Bravo! Very impressive this was made in 48 hours

Rate our game too if you like! https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020/rate/696649

It seems like your conditions for winning are a bit of since I won on level 1 and 2 when I thought I lost. Otherwise nice game that fits the jam!

I didn't fully understand how to play it, but I did get past the first level. It's a really interesting idea for this game jam, and it definitely fits the theme of out of control.

Really interesting game. Was a little confusing at first but a really cool game. Well done!

I was close to winning level 3, but then all my plants died out. For some reason I still managed to win that level. I had no issue with waiting there as I could speed up the time. (Which didn't work as well when there were still plants, as my PC couldn't handle the computational load).

Level 4 and 5 where more challenging, as indeed evolution is out of control. I like the idea. Though might prefer a little more feedback on my actions. When the target crop is the most common, you have no information on what the rest is doing so making corrections becomes impossible. One way to provide more feedback is to have histograms about the length of the plants and the roots.

My strategy was to kill of most plants, then set the parameters to what I believe is best for the target crop and hope for the best.

Fun little game :) Other commenters have covered my nitpick already so I'll just say I love the simple art style. All fits together nicely!

I got to level 3 before accidentally killing off all plants and having to quit. As Ben.Toasty said on the other page, a way to reset the level or simply enforcing that a single shrub always survives would be nice, especially seeing how the game is so rooted in trial-and-error. It might be obvious, but I found that every level should be started with maximum resources to fill it with plants initially, before adjusting them down. Lastly, as a nitpick, I find that maintaining plant sizes is not so much evolution as gardening, but that may be just me. :D
