We did have similar ideas haha! I love how relaxing this is, the messages as you climb higher and higher are a really nice touch and the game looks and sounds really polished/simple. Great work :)

All that you have made combined makes a really relaxing experience. I think it would be nice if you could spawn a little particle when a new branch/flower appears. that would cover the pop-in. Really nice.
This game reminds me of the game flower, feels very relaxing. The music and visuals are nice.
Great job!
The simple visuals and music work together really well in creating a relaxing but satisfying experience. There's just something so nice about seeing those little green branches grow taller and taller along the path of the light. Although it's a little upsetting when I accidentally chop off the top of my plant waving the darkness around. Really unique!
What a chill game! The vibe is great, the music is... idk how to describe it, visuals are simple but clean. I got to around 150m+, was a relaxing experience all the way up there! I got stuck on a (seemingly) immovable point of darkness, and I couldn't redirect the darkness or get the plant to grow around it using light. Loved the little comments all the way up. Btw, what is the level select with the numbers for?
Thanks <3
I got stuck on a (seemingly) immovable point of darkness, and I couldn’t redirect the darkness
Yes, these are more common the higher you go and they are a bit too hard to redirect around. Have you tried deliberately chopping off parts of the top using darkness, to lead it to a better direction?
Btw, what is the level select with the numbers for?
It’s not really a “level select”, it’s a “select one experienced day in the plant’s diary”. It was an idea I had at the end when polishing things up. I thought, why not imply that every day is the same for the plant (which again could maybe interpreted as the plant being delusional about what happens etc). I guess that’s a stretch but why not introduce some things that make the player spin their own interpretations :B
Really cool idea, love the visuals and the ambiance. Also, did you use L-Systems for the plant to grow?
Controls are a bit janky at times, but otherwise very cool!
Too bad you didn't finish in time for the jam? (external link)
Thanks! I didn’t know what L-systems are and I didn’t use engines or premade physics stuff. Plants grow the following way: The likelyhood of randomly generating a new sub-branch above a branch is the sum of the distances to the lights (each ^(-0.5) with a maximum). The only other check is that the amount of branches in one height doesn’t exceed 10. Also, see the description, I did finish the game in time :), if you know a safe and easy way to “inject” built js into an html file, I’m all ears
Oh, sorry, i didn't read all the way to the end on the description (just enough to understand how to move the shadows ;). I'm not well-versed in anything web, so sadly can't help you on the js to WASM part :(
If you like those kind of mechanics/procedural in-game generation, L-System are definitely worth checking out (you're already using them if i understood your algo correctly), they're used to generate 'natural-looking' trees, cities, landscapes, etc. in games and CGI movies (I spent some time on a personal project where i used them to 'grow' a digital garden (never got to the point of user interaction though)).
The game is really cute and pretty, I really like this type of games. I only got confused on how to "remove" the darkness, but the game is really fun and relaxing (and you got a lot of creativity)
If you could rate my game too, thank youu ^^
