This game was super dope! Really gives you the feel of being an intelligent wizard that must truly understand and master the elements and plan how to best take advantage of them. If you know what you are doing you become very powerful and can destroy armies at great distance. And magic is dangerous and if you don't understand what you're doing or become reckless you might as well destroy yourself.
I didn't quite understand the Purify and Corrupt spells thohugh. Corrupt only seemed to hurt the wizard and not the enemies, but I assume the purpose was to turn change the terrain to enable other spells later? Purify just removed corpses though, so I didn't quite see the purpose of that.
Thanks for the comment! This was our first game (and Game Jam), so it is awesome to hear feedback. The purify and corrupt spells were primarily a means to convert back up the resource chain to get things like water back e.g. mud corrupts to marsh, spark on marsh makes ooze, ooze purifies to water.
Ah, right, I had the right idea then, but wasn't quite big brain enough to be a proper wizard. Apparently I didn't discover any of the Purify uses. It might have been a coincidence that whenever I used it there was not purifiable terrain nearby. So, I didn't realize I could get water back.
Love the style and the vibe of the game. Enjoyed it. Good job!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
What are the controls? I couldn't cast any spells and just ran over the soldiers
Thanks for trying out the game, we didn't get round to making nice clear UI for the controls, but it works like this:
WASD => movement
You can cast a spell from any appropriate tile that is contiguous with a tile that you are adjacent to (up, down, left, right). The appropriate start tile(s) are shown under the spell name, and will move each "turn".
e.g. If you are standing next to a body of water, you can cast the water wave spell starting from anywhere in that body of water (make sure to drag to pick the direction)
Alright now, that's the stuff. There was quite an enjoyable game underneath! The spell interactions are nice, they feel good to discover and to make combos after each other. It's an overall nice experience, thanks for helping me out!
always cool to see something made in pygame
Thanks for trying out the game. It is always good to meet a pygame enjoyer ;)
