Nice 2 player game, unfortunatly the prep phase is way tooooo long
Yes, finally a 2-player game!
I'll reiterate on some comments left by other people and try to be brief about it:
- Fasten the prep phase or even ditch it completely (since it's just rolling dice anyways) and instead give some agency to the players (so they can actually pick better crew or ship)
- Give the players more agency/choice (so that they can increase accuracy of cannons, or effectiveness of the crew, maybe with dice pool, so there's still dices and randomness, but players can choose which stats to focus on).
The art is cute, readable and really solid (and I liked the music too).
I have a feeling, that you had a fantastic game concept with some cool ideas that was brought down (like a rusty anchor) by trying to make it about dices and random rolls (so that it adheres to the theme).
While it's understandable everything is random and should be the same odds, the prep phase takes too much time to put together and when the die misses, it feels like a turn wasted. Player 2 got a massive buff when the ship was built because then every dice roll mattered there, but player 1 couldn't even recruit a crew yet.
However, in the end it balanced out because of a bug that caused the player 1 to have 2 turns lol.
Yeah I am aware of that bug. I only noticed it while playtesting just before uploading the game and didn't have time to fix it. As for the prep phase if I had an extra day to work on it I would've made it so your chances increased each roll you didn't get the correct number.
Very nice game! I really liked how you did all the art, UI and music. It all fit together nicely and felt very cohesive. My only critique is that the gameplay is a little too random for me as it seemed like most of my decisions resulted in nothing happening due to not getting the dice roll I needed.
While it did take a while to get past the planing phase, it's a cute little game and I had fun playing it with a friend!
I played against my self , me never had any luck, I destroyed me
What a cute game! I played solo as both players just to see what it's like and I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun it was. Player 2 ended up with a strong 50 health ship and crew before Player 1 even had a captain, but the RNG shifted favour later on and my Player 1 captain was eventually victorious!
I really love the death animation for the crew members, it's hilarious watching them get thrown back on their own ship. Overall, a really fun, unique game. Glad it popped up in my voting queue :)
